Since I normally work on Tuesdays it was never an issue, but I had big plans for today.

Yeah, they don't factor holidays into it. I remember once there was some holiday that most people actually get off (I've never worked for a non-government employer that gave Veteran's Day off ... so it was July 4 or something) and there was a furor in the forums, and they were like "Yeah sorry, maintenance will happen as planned."

Realms have been taken back down and they don't know when they will be back up.

It's an interesting business they run..... someone should talk to them about customer service, cutting downtime and giving me free gold :-)

At this time, Realm Maintenance is currently extended. We will be posting with an update in a few hours with a time as to when the realms should be back up. We are still actively investigating the issues with player mailboxes and we hope to have the situation resolved and realms up as soon as possible.

Yea, I did not have a ton of stuff in the mail but I know a lot of people use the mail as extra 30 bank space, so this is gonna be a REALLY big issue.
