Ok, so after the disaster that was yesterday's respec, I'm putting together my newest talent build. Here's the question.

Should I get Lightwell?

For those unfamiliar with Lightwell, it's a new spell that creates a healing well. During a battle, you click on the well & get healed for 1600 points over 10 seconds. Up to 5 people can get healed before the well disappears. Like a bandage, the heal is channeled. So if you are damaged, the heal is interrupted.

For a priest, it's a very mana friendly spell. Lightwell only costs 345 mana, compared to 1000 mana for Prayer of Healing.

Up until now, I've seen no point in it. It's rare that we're in battle where you can take a 10 second break to heal up. I know that shit won't fly with the Baron.

But as we move onto UBRS and ZG, the boss fights are going to get longer and our groups will get bigger. This means you may have the time to back off from the battle & get healed. So maybe lightwell will be useful.

So what do you think, sirs?

Being the greatest aggro manager ever, I generally only take damage when everyone else is dead so... I dunno.

I've been reading about the lightwell on the Priest forums.
I know it's not intended for the MT. Is the 10 sec healing effect interupted by damage? Not sure if that would be more beneficial than using runecloth bandages. WoW forums suck when trying to get accurate information.

It is interruptable, yes. So you have to be aggro-free to use the well.

In my experience, lightwell isn't a useful tool while "in combat" in ZG instances and lower. I can't speak on MC, BWL or AQ20/40 as I haven't run them anywhere near enough to speak on their usefulness.

Where I have found lightwell useful is on PVP maps.

No, it's not worth it from what I've seen. The only time I've seen it used in MC is after getting the raid back on it's feet after a wipe. It seems like something you really have to work at making useful, so if you actually work it into a strat it might be worth it. he fact it only lasts 3 minutes really makes it awkward. In UBRS I can't really think of anywhere it would be worth having, and I don't know enough about ZG to comment on that. Last I heard it also gives the caster normal healing aggro when it's used, so if that's true you have another drawback.

Looks like it's not very useful in the smaller instances, so I wouldn't waste a point on it. Like Rin says, in the five-man stuff, it's mostly the tank that needs healing love, and the tank is the one person that can't step away and get lightwell luvvins.

In a five man, it might be nice for the other players if they got aggro - or if the DPS person (like a rogue) needed to step back in order to KEEP from getting aggro - they could heal in the meantime.

But honestly, I think those battles go so fast it wouldn't ever get used. Like KT says, it would be nice to use after a wipe though, and doesn't it only cost one point? So if you want it and there's nothing else you want that you could spend the point on, why not?

It would be worth it just for making the jokes about dipping into your well. ROWR.

ok. Fuck lightwell. Fuck it right in the ear. Now I just have to decide which of the two remaning builds I'm looking at will be the winnah.

Don't you mean 'being the best at feigning death'...?

Gleja, have you thought about copying your toon to the test server and trying a couple builds out? I would be willing to go with because I've been looking to do the same thing. If we could get 5 people we could do a few instances and work out the kinks.

My experience is limited, but I would think the heavy runecloth bandages are quicker then this for healing, and most of us have piles of runecloth.

You bitches know I VERY rarely use feign unless you're all already dead.

My attempts to get onto the test realms have always ended in disaster & cryptic errors. But next time I think about respeccing I'll give it a try.

PFFT. Remember: Manage aggro is not equal to 'afraid of aggro, laugh at everyone when they die and then feign death'.

See, NOW you've gone and done it. Our Don is the kind of vindictive little minx that he'll wait til his group is well into Scholo, then as soon as everyone is in the middle of the drawing room he'll talk to one of the students, give them the finger, and feign death. :)

Actually that would be pretty damn funny to watch :D

I think you should get the spirit of redemption or whatever the "cast spells like a fiend from beyond" thing is!

But I'm biased, I just want to see it in action.

WOOHOO!

You know one of these days we need to get around to getting the Hellraiser cube so we can do that questline :D

On my hunter, someone I play with has a mod which announces a person's name when they die, and the minute I see more than six names come up in rapid succession in raid chat I'm finding a corner and pretending I ain't around. I FEEL NO REMORSE FOR I AM POOR.

As for Lightwell, I think everyone is right -- from what I understand, its main purpose is actually to keep rogues up a bit longer during sustained fights, but given the mechanics of most sustained fights it's ultimately not worth it. But it is a fun graphic and that's always good enough reason for me to do anything :o

... Hey The Don? Come in my group some time, because I actually would be willing to die JUST TO SEE THAT. I would DI the priest or something so we could start right back there.

AND HELLRAISER CUBE PUZZLEBOX ASPHINCTERSAYSWHAT?

YES. :D God it's been a long time since I've done that chain, Valneron can undoubtedly explain it better than me. Long story short, that room is not there just for the hell of it to punish noobs. There's a quest line where, a ways into it, you actually bring what amounts to the Hellraiser cube into the room to use against the named elite standing at the top who's running the class. All hell breaks loose (pun intended). It's a really fun event!
