Haya, hope everyone is doing fine. Thought I'd pop in and leave a quick post behind. It's been busy lately, sorry I haven't popped back in for so long. :'( I went to load WoW yesterday but unfortunately it won't load on my p.c. which is one of the very reasons I had to stop playing. I tried the Cd's, downloaded the trial client and went out and bought the dvd much to no avail. So I guess this is as close as I'll get.
All of you are great people and I hope things go spectacular for you! ;D

Not sure about that one Rinader. Tried all the FAQ on the web site. I have AMD 64 3400+ cpu, 1 gig 400 mhz ddram, nvidia 6600gt video card, soundblaster live sound card, Windows xp MCE (with service pack 2), and two hdd's 80 Gig IDE and 90 Gig SATA. Tried the cd's, dvd, downloading the trial version, and running with all files on the p.c. It doesn't ever get a clean unzip of the download though, maybe its a clue...:)

are you using Winzip or the windows unzipper thingy? Might want to try unzipping it with Winzip, fixed it for me when I had that problem.
Hey, your zipper's unzipped. ;)

OOOOOOOOO!
Yeah I used the zip file from fileplanet download manager and winzip 9.0. :(
I must have a latent bug left over from some previous mmorpg company in competition, hehe

Do you feel comfortable in reformating your harddrive and rebuilding your PC?

Weeelll, I did it not so long ago as well as I built this system, probably why its screwy. Got a response from WoWsupport today and they said all the exact same things they say on the FAQ. Got something in mind?

Oh yeah, its also messed up on my daughters machine, friend and I started stripping it down one at a time to bare components to try and get it installed, reinstalled the OS 3 times and finally got it to install when we put in a 4 speed cd reader. Took forever. Strange. I thought it might have been related to memory or the OS at the time but later my daughter tried to install it on her step fathers p.c. runnin xp (fully licensed version) and it wouldn't install there either. Never seen one so touchy. I have two p.c.'s here. The other one is an amd xp 2900 with 1 gig 440mhz ram, dvd reader/burner, geforce 5700 video card, sounblaster live and I used to have a full version of Win2k on it then I did the upgrade to xp. It installed there fine at the time. I've never been able to get it to install correctly on the new system but I had moderate success networking the two p.c.'s together and copying the whole WoW folder over from one p.c. to the other and running the executable from here. Afte patch 10.1 or 10.7b or somesuch it never would update the system anymore. I'm open to suggestions.

Lol Sherica, tried that but my butter knife bent. Error of <unknown> file may be corrupt, potentially the media I'm trying to install it from may be corrupt. (or some such similar)

The weird errors are sometimes the issue of bad ram,
( don't know why its happening on both system )
Maybe run a memory tester?
http://www.memtest86.com/
Do you have 2 sticks of ram or just one?

When you talk to the tech guys, are they like 'Mr. Turd, we don't have any idea how to fix your machine"? :D

I found this at
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=10021039&sid=1
This error occurs only during installation, and it usually signifies faulty memory. The situations can vary, from improper configuration of RAM settings on the motherboard to mismatched RAM modules even faulty or failing RAM.
Example of the Error 38 message:
The installer was unable to read the file "C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\WoW Installer\Installer Tome.mpq". This error may be caused by problems with the media or drive at C:\--for example, a scratched or dirty CD-ROM/DVD-ROM, hard drive corruption, or a networking problem while downloading the installer. (The data being read was "Repack-MPQ\Data#terrain.MPQ\World\Maps\Kalimdor\Kalimdor_34_31.adt", and the error code was 38.) If this problem persists, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (MPQFile::Read)
Does it ring a bell?
