OK... So I sit down to log into WOW last night and hang out with my new guild mates and I could not log in… Strange, but, no problem. Fly out to the website and see if I can notice anything goofy with my account. I can not log into my account management page…. Now I am getting a little suspicious… So I pull up my email and there it is, an email from blizzard hitting me with a 72 hour suspension for what they describe as “Violation of Exploitation and Client/Server Manipulation” !!! WTF!!! I think they suspect me as using bots or something? I never have and I never will use anything like that. I replied back to the wowaccountadmin to ask for an explanation and have not heard anything yet.... So the final strange thing is that the next email in my inbox is a password reset email from Blizzard. And yes, I never requested a password change….
So I am thinking at this point a few things…
1) My account was hacked
2) I have a keylogger on my PC so it is time for a reload
3) What else should I be paranoid about

So has any one ever had any experience with anything like this? Anyone have any thoughts or direction that I should go with this? I do use some addons like auctioneer, threat meter, titan panel but have not added anything for a few weeks….

You've been owned. :( Several VSers have been prey to such heinous criminals. Even Lojac/Makan has had this happen and he's a network security engineer so this could happen to anyone. Best to run a spy sweeper on your PC to get rid of the keylogger and STOP USING IE (if you do).

Make sure Blizzard knows and you get to start the fun process of reclaiming your account.

Sorry jasmes... I feel for ya.

We recently had another guildee hit with the same thing. First thing I would do is call Blizzard and explain things to them -- and get your password changed. Then thoroughly check your PC for viruses, and more importantly spyware/malware.

Well sounds like I have my night planned... I started the ball rolling with blizzard asking for an explanation from them so I can hopefully plead my case. I am going to blow my PC away tonight, I usually do it every 6 months or so and it is due anyway. I use firefox as my browser so I should be good there. Maybe I will put WOW on my work laptop and hang out while I watch windows load tonight. I will be the tall guy by the keg! … with cake… Thanks for your input

Sorry to hear that man! :(

I did notice something really strange just now. I looked you up on the Armory, and it looks like you have all of your gear still, but it's showing you as being BACK in Clothing Optional. It doesn't appear to be an old profile because it does show you as level 65 which I think you just hit. Do you know anyone from your old guild that might have had access to the account and might harbor any kind of grudge about you leaving?

It doesn't look like a traditional hack job so far simply because the char is back in that guild and it looks to still have all of his equipment (at least what he was wearing anyway). Your first job may be to get Blizzard to reset your password over the phone as quickly as possible.

I suggest staying calm and not losing your temper with the Blizz people.

Everyone knows I'm the only one here that haxx0rs accounts!

But seriously Jasmes, I'm sorry to hear this happened yet again -- and I agree with the Don that IE is a big security risk. Use Firefox, use spyware checkers (multiple apps if you can find good ones), don't install ".exe" WoW addons and pretty much scan ANY executable file or addon you download onto your PC.

And even then you can get hit, especially if you use the same pw for Warcraft and online forums somewhere. Make your WoW password HELLS OF DIFFICULT to crack and don't use it anywhere else.

I still think that copying and pasting the password from a text file saved on your desktop makes it more difficult for keyloggers to snatch it. I'm happy in my cuddly bubble of ignorance.

That's actually not a cuddly bubble -- it's a really good idea, as long as you know your computer itself is secure.

This is a great idea! I know my PC is secure, so I think i will put this into practice. Thanks

Unfortunately, the number for Blizzard will not deal with account suspensions only the wowadmin will communicate over suspensions, warnings, and bans. I don’t think that anyone in my last guild would have been angry… I think the armory only updates once a week so that is why it shows me in clothing optional, believe me that was the first thing I checked when I noticed problems! And there was not anyone in that guild that had my account info. I don’t know really. I guess I will wait it out and see what happens. I will reload and have a fresh install of windows when this gets fixed.

I believe the Armory updates every day. My new polearm is there from last night. It says at the bottom the last time it updates. Mine updated today. I checked your armory and it updated yesteryday.

Yes - the armory updates every time you log OUT. Whatever your character state was when you log out of the game, that's saved to the Armory within 20 minutes. For some reason, Jasmes is showing as being back in Clothing Optional... very weird!

Even though the armory updates frequently, it's very slow on guild updates. When I joined VS, the armory still had me listed in my former guild for at least a week.

And Killian, quit hijacking the thread with your self-congratulatory announcements! ;)

THAT could be. I haven't paid attention to guild updates. Thanks Plasmo!

Ouch! This just happened to me last month. I went away for a couple days then came back to a whole bunch of emails in my inbox. Some stated that my paid character transfer had been a success and others that my account was suspended for posting malicious software on the wow forums. I tried to log in and was of course unable to do so. I believe it was a key logger on my pc. First thing I did was call Blizzard and report it. The rep changed my password but no one can reverse the suspension. You have to reply to the email that says it was suspended as those are the only people who can reverse it. In my case it was only for 72 hours so by the time they delt with my case I could already access the account. The hacker had transfered my main and another character to another realm and liquidated all my gold and items. Only one character had her gear, the rest were buck naked. I sent emails to Blizzard about the character transfers and about what happened. As well, when my account was back in service, I opened a ticket with a GM. They opened an investigation. All in all it took about 2 weeks to get everything back to normal. Blizzard was pretty good about restoring everything. They won't be able to give back enchants though. And any item that was randomly generated like of the bear or eagle etc might not have the same stats as before. I had a pair of shoulders that was agility but when I got them back they had intellect. I didn't take a chance with my pc but formatted and reinstalled the whole thing over again. I'm pretty sure I got the key logger from the wow forums. There was something I clicked on and the screen flashed for a second. I learned something that day, be careful what you click on! lol
