THIS EVENT IS CONFIRMED FOR MAY 22-26, 2008
PLEASE UPDATE ME ON YOUR TRAVEL PLANS & ACCOMODATIONS
I can get a discount on almost anything going on in the city so send me any requests you have!
Also, please let me know if you have any dietary restrictions.
When:
May 22-26, 2008 (Memorial Day long weekend)
Where:
Toronto (don't forget your passports!!)
See map attached.
Flight options:
1) Fly into Toronto Island airport downtown - I think this is only an option for those that live in Canada but it's soooo close to where I live!
2) Fly into YYZ (Toronto International Airport) - cab ride into the city is $50 (sadly, there is no train); I'm sure there is a bus but would have to research this (let me know if you need assistance)
3) Fly into Buffalo - you will need to rent a car or carpool with others that are coming that route; the drive is 60-90 minutes
Hotel options:
I have not researched this very well. But here's a couple of suggestions so far:
1) Westin Harbour Castle - right across the street from me
2) Novotel - 5 minute walk from me
Getting around:
Parking is hard to find and very expensive downtown so keep that in mind if you are thinking of driving or renting a car. I have some guest parking in my building but it's based on availability and I can't reserve it ahead of time. Getting around downtown is easy without a car. (Hence the reason I do not have a vehicle of my own.) We will need cars to get out to Wonderland but I think we should have enough people with vehicles to manage that and I can always rent a car for that day if needed.
The Main Event:
Canada's Wonderland! To go on this!
I can get tickets for $35 (regular price is $53). If you do not want to go to Wonderland, please let me know so I don't get you a ticket.
The Plan (see attached itinerary):
Thursday night (9pm) - pre-weekend meet & greet: karaoke at Up Front Bar & Grill
Friday daytime (10am) - walking tour around downtown: Kensington Market, Queen Street West, Eaton Centre shopping, etc.
Friday night (7pm) - official weekend kick-off party: Tacos & Rock Band at Sapph's place
Saturday daytime (9am-7pm) - Canada's Wonderland
Saturday night (9pm) - dinner @ Soto Soto, courtesy of Khros
Saturday late night (midnight) - dancing at Club V
Sunday brunch (11am) - Le Papillon (French-Canadian Cuisine... lots and lots of crepes!)
Sunday afternoon (1pm) - Free day. I will likely be heading to the Distillery District for Arts & Crafts Show and ... well, there will probably be BEER
Sunday night (11pm) - For those that want to... we will be going to a bar in The Village (if this isn't for you, I can make other recommendations)
Other things to consider doing in Toronto:
Niagara Falls (90 minute drive)
The Zoo (you'll likely need a car to get there)
Hippo tour
CN Tower (although this is a really cool building and now has glass elevator floors, it is over-priced in my opinion... but I'd be happy to arrange tickets for anyone who really wants to go)
RSVPs:

Sapphyre - Host extraordinaire
Foxfyr - Co-Host and Rock Star
Kae - driving Thurs to Mon
Killian & Agnes - YYZ 2:30pm Thurs to 5:30pm Mon

I'm a total roller coaster wimp...just looking at those things makes me want to barf. I'm happy to watch others go on them while I enjoy the very-bad-for-me food.

I grew up near the greatest park in the world, and I've been stuck for eight years in coaster no-man's land, especially since Jam won't ride them even if I went home for a summer. XD I'm so jealous.

I love roller coasters, and WEM's indoor one really isn't quite the same. Pick a date, Sapph.

I don't like roller coasters. My stomach doesn't do well
I would like to go earlier in the season - before all the kiddies get out of school. And before it gets too hot. I hate the sun and the last few years I have been stuck going in July/August. Yuk.
So... if you are interested in coming, please tell me when is suitable for you between mid-May and mid-June.

There will be no shortage of junk food there. I believe you saw the pics Kae took from this year's adventure. Does that mean you and Aro are in? ... and Rastus, now that you have a junk food buddy, any chance you can make the trip?

Aro, Ceder Point is excellent. I've only been there twice. When I was young and had no responsibilities, I used to go to as many different parks and ride as many coasters as I could. Yet for some reason I never made it to Canada's Wonderland. I've been to LaRonde in Montreal maybe a half dozen times, but never made it to Toronto.

There's a chance, but it's impossible to know for sure right now. Sounds like fun, though, and I'd love to meet guildies in person!

Aro, Ceder Point is excellent.
While I admit to a certain amount of hometown bias (it's just something that happens in Ohio, you can't escape it), I genuinely believe that it's is one of the awesomest places on earth. I have been to many, many parks and ridden many, many coasters, but the main drag of Cedar Point will always be foremost in my heart.
... And I would love to plan YAY CANADA, Sapph, because, DUDE COASTERS, but man I have no idea what's going to be going on in my life one month from now, let alone eight. XD

Aro! You have a "maybe" here... go with it! You have like 9 months to convince him that this is a good decision. And trust me, you won't be disappointed with the rides here. I won't say it's better than Cedar Point, but it is a lot of fun.

OMG! You can totally put us down! Heck, we're only 4 hours away. :D
I don't go on roller coasters but I will sit on the sidelines holding bags and watch you guys scream.
I like doing that. ;)
Edit: I used to go to Canada's Wonderland at least once a year. I can remember when they built the Bat. Now that's old. It's been a few years since I was there last. I'll be interested to see what's changed.

I go every year and I love it! I think I've only missed 2 years since the park opened. It has changed a lot... I think you'll be surprised!

While I don't mind roller coasters at all, I'm a big dude so either vital things get squished in the process of pouring myself into the seat or I don't hear the reassuring *CLICK* of the lock and I can rarely enjoy them.
I'll see what I could do about a tripo to Canadia though. Would be fun.

I also grew up about 40min away from Cedar Point. I LOOOOOVE that place.
And I'm also in the Aro boat of having absolutely NO idea what I'm doing then. I have an equal chance of being in Afghanistan, Fort Benning, Boston, or Cleveland among many other possibilities. Who knows??

Stayed at a B&B at put-in-bay last summer. Was lot of fun. I love being on the lake- that was the #1 thing I missed about moving down to Columbus. Now, I'm about 8 hours from the ocean :(
