You know, I was pretty sure this was just a figure of speech, but there was a little sick feeling in the bottom of my stomach that perhaps it wasnt.

My uber-christian friend was bugging me for a while about joining the guild. I delayed and stalled and made excuses and finally just referred him to the homepage. About 10 min later he said 'yeah, it looks like I won't really be a good fit' and he hasn't said a thing since. It was really easy!

People can believe what they want to believe and act how they want to act -as long as its within reason in regard to affecting other people. At least he didn't make a huge public stink and was very polite about leaving (was he Canadian?). So no beef with this guy, but.... seriously? Did he not know what he was getting into? I think we're pretty clear about what we are.

I was going to stay the hell out of this because this guy works in the same general vicinity as me; but fuck it, at least I will keep politics out of it.

One night about three months ago, Stranger and Lilybottom were having a civil discussion about religion, other folks would input occasionally and all was well. TP, who was maybe a month or so into the guild quoted a verse of scripture into guildchat, and this was not one of those benign quotes like "love your neighbours wife and his hawt age of consent daughters"; this was one of those, "accept my word as the only one or you are a worthless sinner" quotes.

I lost my dudeness after reading that and logged off before verbally ripping this person a second rectum. Being still an irate pirate when I logged in ten minutes later, I stated in GC "are we done quoting scripture yet?"; which more than one person (including Lil) thought I was referring to Lil instead of TP. I instantly sent Lil a tell explaining my overt behaviour and we chatted for awhile quite pleasantly.

The bottom line to my diatribe here is that TP did have a secondary meaning to his "goodbye" which follows along the status quo for these people; I knew that something like this was coming and I knew that it would draw the responses that it has so far.

Don't let this vitriol he has spread work as he wishes it to. <3 <3 <3

While I'm very firm in my position of being a godless heathen, I also respect others view as their own. I'm not offended at all TP left because we did not follow the same path as him. I'm glad he decided to bow out instead of either staying and always being uncomfortable or feeling a need to "save us" and quoting scripture (again). I hope he's able to find a wow-home more suited to his outlook.
