Hey Ressick, I'd definitely swap that 8800 video for a 9800 GTX, which should be around that price I think, and 4GB is a minimum especially if you go Vista. If you ever plan to dual box on Vista, 8GB is the way to go.

Nah, staying with XP since DirectX 10 support is being put on it. Maybe once Vista isn't such a big pile of shit, I'll move to it. Otherwise, sticking with XP. And I'm saving some mula by getting the 8800. Considering I'm splurging on the mobo.

For those looking for a new rig, I saw this on Newegg tonight and thought "how dead would I be if I ordered one of these?" http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883103154 Yeah, it's an Acer but wow -- lotta box for the buck (that's what he said).
Thanks again for this link Killian. It arrived at my house on the 19th and it has been working great. I still can't believe Vista uses so much ram. I started it up and it images the box with 64bit Vista and it used around 2.4GB of ram with nothing open. I uninstalled all I didn't need, removed unnecessary services and startup programs, and it runs between 1.4GBs and 1.7GBs with nothing open. Been playing Crysis, Call of Duty 4, and WoW without a problem.
Anyone have any other games to recommend? I want to play a game I can't beat in 2 days. You know something to spend time on until WoLK.

Memory usage in Vista looks very different than memory usage in XP. Vista uses a much more aggressive cache than XP, so it'll look like it's using more memory. But that cache is low priority, so if another program needs that memory, Vista should give it up.
Note that I said "should".

After my endless comptar woes with the custom machine built back in March, I also ended up picking up the Acer Aspire box Don recommended, and it's quiet and running high-end games like a dream. The only thing left to do (besides cryogenically freeze myself until Nov 13) is try and wrangle the manufacturer into giving me 64 bit disks, since as mentioned it's loaded with Vista 64 but comes with discs for Vista 32.

Yay we have the same machine! Why do you need the disks for it? When I booted up mine the machine images itself and is running Vista 64bit. I do love how quiet it is. I added 1 fan from my old case to it. I don't have the hibernate problem that some people were complaining about.
I mostly wanted in case of an oh shit reformatting incident. After this last machine fizzled on me I worry about worst case scenarios!

Ah gotcha. The image did have a crap load of games on it. I uninstalled all of them. They were random crappy games.
I need to put another cd/dvd drive in there. I'm used to having two in there so I can always leave one of my game disks in.

I'm shocked, my little middle of shitsville town has two Games Stops opening at midnight... I already have my presale set, I'll be there...
Now I just have to hope I don't end up having to replace Arachne's computer to play...

Sadly so far the price on Amazon.ca is $10 cheaper than prices listed at stores for the release, at two copies that $20.
So unless the local stores adjust their price Jack and I are gonna be a couple of days late in joining you call.
I have a bit of a problem over paying for stuff when I know there is a better price out there.

I just called the closest store to me, which is on that list, and they are NOT doing a midnight opening, so I'd definitely check ahead of time!

C-Rob and I did Amazon's "Guaranteed delivery on release day" pre-order. We just sit and eat pancakes and it comes to us.

Yea they dont seem to have that up here for Amazon.ca though their price is $10 cheaper than in stores, which up here list it at $44.95 with Amazon.ca being $34.95

I just happen to be off that day although I don't think the store where I ordered copy is having a midnight opening. I'll just have be there first thing in the morning.
