I get a network error at my place and at Sapph's. With or without a router.

Anyone get this working in Canada?

Just keep trying, they have all sorts of server issues at random times. Likely you just decided to log on at an inopportune time. I was pretty much unable to log in for 3 hours last night.

I think I've lost interest in this game already...
It takes way too much time and investment for me, and now I keep getting my stuff plundered. Boo.

The game is similar to a text base game I used to play, Earth 2025. The whole idea is to get into a big group for protection, and then plunder them before they plunder you. If they get upset, then you war. Kill them, they kill you. Cycle through again. I probably won't stay long on this game, myself.

i have a feeling that as soon as we all start getting ass-raped when the 7 days is up, we're all gonna quit. Interesting time waster for a week, anyway.

I played Travian for a while which is basically the same thing. It required far too much tome for far too little reward. Plus this game really brings out the douche in people. I probably won't keep playing.

Problem is, the 7 -day protection really isn't that. It's really 7-days or build your town hall to level 5. Which they don't bother telling you. So, I had my town hall built to level 6 by day 3 and bam!..

I was able to stay around for a while after that, but as soon as I started venturing out and attacking NPC cities for the plunder, I started getting demolished by NPCs with far larger armies... 13,400 archers, 25,000 warriors, 11,000 cavalry... and all the time and resources I spent to fortify my walls went down the tubes and 3/4 of the saved resources at the city go out the window... too much to lose in 1 second without even seeing it coming... (even with my level 5 beacon tower)...

so what you are saying is don't lvl town hall to 5 til. you lvl up your army's and other stuff first?

so what you are saying is don't lvl town hall to 5 til. you lvl up your army's and other stuff first?

Yeah, but the problem is that so many things require you to have your town hall leveled up that its really hard to balance. I don't think you can get "archer towers" until your town hall is at level 5 for instance, but that's the best way to defend your wall.

If you look at the bottom of your wall interface, you'll see how many "spaces" you have to fortify. A level 6 wall has something like 27000 spaces. And in order to be well protected you need to have 27000 traps and towers. The cost of 27,000 towers is well over 10,000,000 wood and stone resources...

It becomes a big chain, you have to get your town hall built up or you don't have the ability to advance you sawmills, quarries, mines, and farms; and you don't have the ability to research what is needed to get the production time up. But once you have your city at a place where production isn't too much of a problem, you are vulnerable to attack...

Making it a catch 22 -- you can't advance well enough to stay protected unless you get out of protection mode, but once you do you're likely to get your butt kicked... And I was in an alliance with 60 people but its nearly impossible to help each other because there's no indication that something is coming until 30 seconds before it gets there...

I'm not saying I want it to be easy... but boy its just too tedious for it to be fun for me. And that says a lot because I have played the hell out of just about every Sid Meier's game ever made... lol

Homereker:sorry to hear you arent enjoying it. For everyone else, its plainly stated that if you go to lv 5 you loose your protection, try and scout a town you also get a warning pop up.

Lvl 4 is a good place to stop and recoup, build up your resource generators, dont worry so much about your army. Focus on building cottages for gold and "city" plots for resources. Research resource inceasing techs first then slowly build up your infrustructure. Have at least 2 barracks in each town at lvl 4 then once you have a decent amount of resources flowing in, build archers and research archery. I have 2 lv 4 town halls and plots full of level 8-9 resources, quite doable.

The 7 day protection is a godsend to get a leg up, I'm sure as hell gonna miss it when it's gone. I'm sure itl'l be a ton o griefing but what I like about this game is its a offline kind of game, something to kill a half hr with when I got nothing else going on. If I find myself in a no win situation and give up - oh well i had fun while it lasted.

SO far soo good - 7 day is later today - wish me luck!

It was fun for a few days, I'll admit that. But then it was unfun... lol

In fact, I was holding my own for a while, even being attacked. But eventually it just began to frustrate me.

One game where I have time and energy invested is enough for me... lol

I've been unprotected for a few days now and no attacks yet. The server stability problems is wicked annoying though.

Got this from them:

Dear Evony Players,
When Evony was released, the demand for the game far exceeded our expectations. Our servers and network were designed with a moderate size player base in mind, and the number of Evony players now exceeds 500,000. While we were thrilled with the response to the game, we were also overwhelmed.
We were basically left with two options: scale up our infrastructure to meet demand, or forgo the “Free Forever” theme and convert to a subscription system, which would reduce the number of users.
We decided that because “Free Forever” is what inspired players to come to Evony in the first place, we would stick with it and do our best to support all our paid and unpaid players, rather than changing the business model to subscription-based. Since that time, our team has been getting very little sleep, often working 20 hours per day on Evony to make the game better, more stable and error-free. We believe that while the game is far from perfect, our efforts have yielded results. Evony servers are more stable than ever before. In addition, we have ramped up our capacity, including adding a new server, and we will continue to increase our capacity to keep up with demand.
We're also working on bug fixes, based on feedback from all of you. Many bugs have been fixed, but we realize more still exist. We are doing our best to stay on top of them.
A major point of controversy came when we attempted to fix the “Scout spam” medal exploit issue. Our goal was to fix the exploit, but in doing so we had the unintended side effect of dramatically lowering the medal drop rate.
We initially tried to fix this by artificially increasing the drop rate, but we eventually decided to redesign the medal system entirely. Now medals drop based on the level of the barbarian city or valley attacked. Higher level valleys drop higher level medals, and the drop rate is much more predictable and even.
Our intention was never to force players to buy Evony Cents to get medals through purchased medal boxes. We are committed to a real Free Forever approach. We want players to be able to gain promotion and have success in the game without ever paying any money. Evony Cent items are designed to help players do things faster and easier, and are supposed to be completely optional.
However, much of the time these goals were not communicated, both because we are on a different continent and because we are so busy with efforts to correct issues and increase capacity. That was a mistake on our part and certainly conveyed the wrong message to you, the player. For this reason, we have now hired an English Liaison to help aid in communication with the community and are in the process of hiring additional liaisons, moderators and customer service representatives to help address player concerns and keep the lines of communication open.
After all of this, we want to let the players know that we are still enthusiastically committed to continuing to improve Evony. The new medal system will reward players according to the difficulty of their battles. Tougher battles are more likely to yield better medals. As Evony moves forward, we are working on some exciting developments. We're going to continue to fix bugs and exploits as they crop up. We're going to listen to the voice of our community through our liaisons and customer service team. We're in the process of building and strengthening our customer service team. We'll balance combat and the game economy by hiring game data specialists and economists. We're building better graphics, animations and in-game videos and adding music and sound into Evony. We're continuing to increase server capacity and performance, increasing server stability and reliability. We're adding new moderators in-game and on the forums.
And we are still developing Age Two, which will add a historical perspective and new combat mechanics to the game, among many other things. Players have responded in huge numbers to our employment postings.
We're excited to have so many of the people working on Evony also be players of Evony. In this way, we can continue to mold the game to be what players want.
We are all very excited about the future of Evony, and we hope you are too!
The heart of Evony is our community and we are honored and thrilled to have such an involved, thoughtful and enthusiastic player base. Thank you for your continued support of Evony.
Sincerely,
The Evony Team

I'm in Tuscany, but I'm not too sure how long I''ll stick around. My neighbor has taken to plundering me from each of his gazillion cities, making it impossible for me to level up any of my defenses or build up my offense. That and the loooong building and academy times are killer.

Yeah, I've been back at it again since I'm not playing WoW because of our trip...

So, now I have three cities and they are sort of scattered about... and pretty high level... I still get pummeled every now and again... but that's ok, I guess...
