Good idea Oriole. IF you aren't playing this freaking amazing game, you are missing out.
This is the review that got me off the fence when I was deciding wheter or not I wanted to invest time in yet another MMO. This is more of an online rpg you can play with your friends.
It's 30 minutes long but I diddn;t really notice since its pretty entertaining and informative.

I want to say, if you are loving the game then I am glad for you. My 2 cents is simply that the game isn't that different from other MMO's out there. Given that there are literally over a dozen MMO's that are some form of free already, some of them having great graphics and game mechanics that are in GW2, I think the playability of GW2 really just depends on how fresh you feel MMO's are. I tried it in beta and it felt very much like the same grind. True, harvest nodes is a nice touch but it's not enough to make me want to log in. Another key point is that if you level up a toon, you will face leveling up the next toon, if you choose to have any alts, doing the exact same zones and quests. Another way of looking at this is that the game is, at it's core, still just a leveling up grind fest with a different skin and a different package of features.
I don't make this post to make fun of anyone, but anyone that is on the fence should have their eyes open before they spend the cash. If MMO grinding is getting old for you, expect GW2 to get stale within the first month. That's my point and the purpose of posting.

Well it's not for everyone. Though you may be right that I could get bored in a month well hot damn I got my moneys worth. I can always put it on the shelf and pick it up later with no worries.
Yes its leveling up, um thats pretty core to rpgs as well as mmos. And no you dont have to do the same things over and over, I am leveling a new character and using different areas to do it. Each race has its onw leveling grounds. I'll may get to a point where it all merges but I find this races story radicllay different that the other ones.
Anyway, still having fun. Cya round

You don't know how glad I am to hear at least one other person say this. I've been playing it some because a large number of people at work were harping really hard about it and they finally convinced me to get on, but I still don't see what the fuss is all about. I -do- like that I've been able to get the closest I've been at recreating my main D&D character in a video game. Beyond that, I'm usually mostly frustrated or bored with it the mechanics as a whole. It's by no means bad, but I'm not giving up other games for it. Thankfully, as it's as much as any other game minus a subscription fee, I feel like I'll at least get my money's worth playing through the personal story with one character.
That being said, again, I am going through it at least for a while, so you can catch me at Lyrithyn.2437 if you're so inclined.

I wasn't sure when I first started playing, but Oriole and Widget helped me out with a few things. What draws me in is the cooperation that there is, and the auto-level scaling. As you wander around the world if you enter a zone which is too low for you, you automatically scale down, which makes the quests still somewhat challenging. What really has drawn me in is the 'events' which are basically group quests throughout the world. People cooperatively jump in and the boss scales automatically to the number of people participating. And finally not having to compete for loot or gathering is a huge bonus.
Is it another mmo with grind and repetition? Yes, all mmos are such. Does it have a few innovative features? Yes.
I do have MoP pre-ordered so I'll play that as well. What made GW2 an option for me is the no-sub feature. I don't really want 2 subs going at the same time and this way I can come/go to GW2 as I want with no extra fee.

Hey, excellent points. What's important is that you are having fun. As I said, I wasn't trying to say anyone that likes it is wrong in any way. I fell for the whole "awesome" when SWTOR was rolling out, and the whole argument about the awesome quests. I agree they were awesome...for about a month and then the grind, which is something I personally don't want anymore, is still there. I felt foolish for falling for the hype.
While almost no one is in the same boat as me, anyone that is tired of MMO's needs to hear this opinion, that GW2 is still a grind. If someone chooses to spend the money anyway at least they have their eyes open. I wish I had my money back from SWTOR and I almost made the same mistake with GW2.
It's true that some day I will be ready for a grind again, and then I will get GW2 at a decent price and I could have had SWTOR at a decent price. Plus, it is going F2P (surprise).

I bought the game and have been having fun with it so far. Yes, it's a mmo. Yes, there will be some grind. I'm just getting started so I don't know how much but so far it's kept me interested with fun things to do as I level (25ish atm). 60 bucks and no monthly fee...It's worth the price of 4 months of WoW.
Yes, Dammit, I will probably be buying the WoW kung fu panda expansion. I live a lot online...except for VS Fest!
