SO I HAVE A PALLY QUESTION.

Google is failing me -- what was the deal with that Paladin-turning-into-a-deer we saw Thursday night outside UBRS? Someone mentioned a quest that was class specific, but I can't find much about it. Inquiring minds like mine wanna know!

I finally hit 10 with Lushy! I have no clue what to spec. I have no interest in DPS... that's what my hunter is for :) So should I go Holy like the rest of the masses? Subjective opinions are welcome.

I know a lot of people like Ret, but I really love Holy. Holy actually gives you a little ranged attack, which is a very precious thing for a paladin; we don't get a whole lot of range. You don't do all that much damage, but you can go toe to toe with nearly anything as long as you can keep yourself healed. You don't run out of mana -- if you start to, just turn it into a mana battery and keep going. You have the flexibility to be the primary healer or to off-tank.

You'll actually find that many of the paladins you meet are ret, at least at low levels. Holy paladins are few and far between...but so very good.

Much like Stranger, I am so in love with Holy Shock (that's the range attack he's talking about) that I couldn't spec anything else.

It depends on how much you're planning on tanking I think. If you're not interested in dps, would you rather be more of a support class or a tank? If you'd rather be support, go with holy. If you'd rather tank, go with prot. Holy spec can tank passably, Ing has always been holy and has been tanking since I joined VS, but the prot spec would make it more efficient.

Thanks, guys! I think I might go Holy... especially if you say I can still tank or off-tank!

Now I just have to figure out what these seals are all about... :)

You're Canadian: you should know seals are for bashing on the head and making into boots. And for breakfast - first thing we see after waking up and stepping out of our igloos. :)

Frenial! Shame on you, leading people to believe that crap about Canadians!
BESIDES, if my pet seal heard you talking that way, he'd bash YOU on the head. ;)

I'm just doing my part to make Rick Mercer's "Speaking to Americans" segments that much more successful. :)

I've been remiss in not posting here lately, but figured I'd chime in :)

There were a LOT of great, great paladin changes made in 2.0 that have really done a great deal for our class. At this point, I think it just depends on what your personal goal is going to be.

If you want to be primarily a "Healadin", then the Holy tree is for you! It does come with a ranged attack spell, Holy Shock, which is always nice, and that's where you'll get your mana and healing bonuses from. This spec is going to be able to OT when really needed, but it won't be in a position to MT unless you're way ahead of the dungeon's requirements, particularly in TBC.

Protection is not used by many Paladins but it is my personal favorite! You won't have a ton of mana, you won't heal nearly as well as a Holy Paladin, but damn if you aren't almost impossible to kill. With the sheer number of bonuses that you get from the Protection tree it's definitely possible to tank as well as a warrior or a feral druid. You get massive bonuses to your ability to use a shield, armor, stamina, etc. Also, it's extremely important to note that the 41 point Prot talent is Avenger's Shield - don't leave home without it! It is a 30 yard ranged attack that does FAR more damage than Holy Shock (800+ typical) to THREE mobs (it chains from 1 to the 2nd to the 3rd as long as they are within 8 yars of each other) and also dazes them. Great for pulling. :)

Retribution is also much nicer than it used to be - want to get out there with a 2H weapon and do some serious damage? Then this is the tree for you! I've actually seen Ret spec Paladins with great gear pull aggro intentionally and easily in an Onyxia fight (the Paladins were assholes to even try to do so, but it's important to note that they did enough DPS TO do so).

Masah currently 37. (Should be 40 early next week).

This is the first character I've actually brought over the lvl 30 threshold. Because of numerous re-rolls due to friends migrating (*cough* twistle...hehe)

Right now I'm heavily concentrating on leveling, so I can play with you guys ;)
So I'm going full ret for now. I'll definitely spec prot with a bit of holy later on because I love off-tanking and healing... plus you get the Captain America thing going on, as a bonus, as Jamisia pointed out :D.

So getting to 60-70 right now is my main goal, with making some gold on the side.
Thank you auctioneer!
