I think there's a difference between 'hey, have you talked to anyone in the guild' -- which is already on the app -- and 'name who will sponsor your application'. It's really just a connotative difference, and you're very correct with pointing that out, but it's a connotation that twigs a lot of anti-elitism responses in me.

YOU agreed with the following statement by Sapphyre:
Unless I am misreading it, Sapphyre is against opening recruitment back up until the current group of VS'ers really gets to know some of the new applicants (and older members). The only exception would be for people who already know someone in VS or they are highly recommended by someone.
That's what you agreed with and that doesn't agree with your revised stance on what "sponsorship" means.
My point to you is that NONE of the people, including yourself, would be in VS if this ideal was in place when I orignally applied to VS. I was the guinnea pig to see if VS was a right fit for the group I transferred with and if we were a good fit for VS. I was a random applicant.
As Jamisia said, all applicants are initially "screened" by someone much smarter than I am to see if, at least on the surface, they'll be a good fit. So you're new sponsorship suggestion has been in place since I applied to VS.
I'm going to say "no" with a disclaimer. If someone applies that knows someone in VS or is highly recommended by someone in VS, then I say we accept the app and see if they fit in. Otherwise, I'd like to get to know everyone a little better before full-on recruitment again. That's my 2 cents.

Nah, serious is NOT what we are about! :)
Basically the question at hand was whether to open up recruitment or not - and I think the vast majority of people are on the exact same page on that. We will NOT openly recruit at this moment by advertising the guild on forums and the like, but we will look at any apps we receive - whether unsolicited or someone who already has a friend in the guild - and evaluate them based on the merit they deserve. Simple enough, and we've been doing it for months as it is.
Now where's the booze?

The system that is in place now, open enrollment, works, and works well for us. Questions about that aren't necessary. The question is: Do we start taking applications again?
I can't answer that as, I don't know anyone who plays anymore as I hardly get a chance to log in. But, as a long standing member, I think my opinion has at least a little weight. It seems even the people who play are still wanting to get a little better acquainted with the newest batch of VS'ers.
So, question answered, problem solved, bring in the whores.

I really shouldn't have ANY weight here as I don't play very much anymore and the hordes of new people kind of intimidate me, but before the "should be open enrollment again?" question gets asked, what is the goal of the guild? To stay casual and kooky? Or to have more help on bigger/better instance runs/raids?
I'll add a few more slashes there just for continuity. //////

I have to agree with Aro on this one. If people find our site, see us in game like our policies and wish to apply go for it. (thats how Gyb and I found you ....without a sponsor I must add!!!)
I do not think we need to start posting in Eitrigg forums that we are looking for new members or actively recruiting. I personally think that would open a whole big can of worms.
Thats my two cents, but then again I haven't been on in a month. I am sure you have all fallen to shit without me anyway, and it won't be fixed till I am back so this whole thread is moot :)

I apologize for that.
Sometimes I get so caught up in being right, I forget to be decent and fair. I wasn't decent or fair in my reply. For that, I apologize to VS and Stranger.

Purely from a recruiting standpoint Schmoo, we are still recruiting as a casual and crazy guild. By that, I mean we are not recruiting only high-level characters, or recruiting random people purely to get body count. We have open enrollment for any level character, no gear requirements, blah blah blah.
As far as the goals of the guild, I think Killian covered those in his updated post about where the guild is going and what we want to do, so I think that is better discussed over there. <3 I only say this because I feel this is an important thread and I don't want the point of it to get lost. Like we do. :)

No apology needed here, I just didn't want to see things get heated and people starting to get hurt feelings & shit. I seen that too many times in old guilds and the shit rolled downhill from there. Good thing this guild is unlike any other guild out there
And Sher - nothings hotter then a woman saying bring in the whores! ;D

Hey - I'm only in Buck's for 4 years! I'm a 2 Streeter from South Philly and the really good sanwiches are from John's Roast Pork on Weccacoe & Snyder Ave :-P
Now get your ass to Ferg's on Samson Street for a beer lunch.

That's right up the street from where I grew up - 2nd & Snyder.
So... um... have we made a decision here? Cause it looks like this thread is being hijacked by apologies and hoagies!

I think there are two different questions here - whether we are openly recruiting (which is exactly what the poll says), or willing to look at applications that come in, whether unsolicited or friends of existing guild members. I strongly feel that we should at least look at any applications we receive, though I completely agree that we should not be openly recruiting. That's how I interpreted the poll anyway and I think at least a few other people did as well.
Sherica! Start joining some raids and instances dammit! Got to get some of these people to meet the doberman!
