What server are you on, Shadian?
That I can't remember. I'll have to look it up when I get home. I could easily start on another server. None of my characters are high level.
I've been playing on Brandywine but my toon is like lvl 5.

LOTRO tasted like sweaty nuts when I tried it in beta. Good to hear you like it now, cause I was really excited about it pre-launch, but so dissapointed when I tried it. Not that I have time to play, but I may give it another look.

If you think anyone here would believe you to be considerate enough to lick my balls, you have another thing coming.

Rub them, maybe. But lick? Nah, I couldn't see Bren doing that.
You guys are trying to get this thread into the pit, huh?

I know its been a long time since I've posted something here ... but I was <whispers> trolling, and couldn't resist adding my two cents <hush up, Torrin>
I've played Lotro from since beta, and while the storyline questing is very similiar to that of Wow, the world is just as vast ... and they have only opened a small portion of the Middle earth map. Game content is great, and in typical Turbine fashion every couple of months there is a new "book" to the story with more quest/new zones/ new epic dungeons, etc...
One thing that IS different is that there is not the need to always be in a raid dungeon to get the good gear. The player made/crit'd gear is the best to be had. Not to say that the gear gotten from "The Rift" or earned out in the "Moors" <PvMP zone> its good also.
Is every toon a cookie cutter? No, J they are not ... the difference is made by what deeds <tasks to be completed either by discovery or kill within each zone> you complete and how you slot your virtues/racial traits/class traits/ legendary traits ... they add points to your base stats.
For example, my 50 lvl Captain is set up to be heavy in the stat Will ... with helps with regen of in and out of combat power ... she is not set up to be a heavy melee tank ... she tanks and is a back up healer/buffer.
Sure there is not the dance/emotes like in WoW ... but the music set up is pretty cool ... and the guild I belong to on Landroval regularly participates in server wide concerts ... as well as be a force to fear out in the moors.
<shuts off her ramble button>
I play on Landroval, the BlackLion Fellowship ... main toons are Taragh (capt), and Liandan (hunter) both lvl 50's ... my next will be Eldaliel, who is a lore-master
if you are curious ... look me up :)

I just bought a new laptop off the Dell outlet, it should get here Monday.
Oddly, one of the things that is being shipped with it, apparently, is the LOTRO game.
If there is a free trial membership, I'll probably give it a whirl...

Wow, over three years since anyone posted in this thread. I forgot this game existed but just read an article about F2P... downloaded it and booted it up.
Does anyone play this still? Or at least have some experience with it?
Don't worry, I'm not leaving wow for it :)

Yeah, I'm doing the F2P with the difference that I'd bought the expansions along the way so I have a shared bank and some other stuff that goes with the F2P. I'm on the Meneldor server. I have a full compliment of toons (of course), all fairly low level. If you see any of the below people on, it's me.
Belegarod
Fargar
Forthalaf
Glundin
Linaphor
Melegrond
Quarn
Tedegar
I prefer the crafting system in this game to any other. The zones are very nice too IMO. The way things morph from long distance to short distance is something I don't care for but it's not a deal breaker, especially given the fact it probably saves a crap ton on minimum spec issues.
Back to crafting, you haven't lived until you do farming/cooking (called a yeoman I believe). You can grow your own crops, process them into grains or other items, then use them to cook. Also, as a farmer, you grow your own pipe-weed that can be smoked. In the scheme of things almost totally useless but still very cool, especially as a crafter. There are many kinds of pipe-weed all by itself, from Old Toby to Longbottom Leaf (http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Pipe-weed).
Anyway, I know everyone loves WoW and that's fine, but for F2P it is worth a look. Also, as you play, you will earn Turbine points so a certain amount of the game you will be able to buy as you go. For instance, the riding skill costs 95 Turbine points per character so each character could probably earn his own points to buy the riding skill by the time they are level 10ish. For comparison, I believe 500 points is equivalent to $5 US, or 1 point per penny. Of course, you still have to buy the mount with ingame money, or have purchased something that provides horses. The newest expansion comes with a mount for all characters that you make, for instance (though not the riding skill).

The crafting is what i'm primarily interested in, as a means to fart around when I don't want to have to think about gaming. So that's good to hear. I'm definitely not going to be levelling like crazy or raiding or anything like that. Wow scratches that itch.
I might start a toon on your server so I can chat about the various crafting professions. Any recommended websites for LOTRO crafting?

Believe it or not I've not used any. The basics are pretty straightforward. Some of the factions, that you would normally come across in your travels anyway, have special crafting recipes. Nothing new there in an RPG or MMO. I'm sure if you do some basic searches you'll find lots of info.
http://www.northshield.co.uk/LOTRO/
http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Main_Page
The wiki has more than crafting info.
Something else for roleplayers is the ability to have outfit slots so that you can appear to wear something that you're not. Last I remember, you couldn't do that in WoW but maybe you can now. That way you can upgrade to a statistically better piece of equipment but still appear to be wearing something that looks nicer. Also, you can switch outfits with a press of the button. I know WoW could do this but not the other, plus there is something like 6 or more seperate outfit slots available though they have to be purchased if you are not subbed.
Here is the chart for what you get and don't get for the 3 levels of subs.
http://www.lotro.com/betasignup/vipchart.html
This might be an old list but I think it is accurate. Bear in mind that somethings that you get for purchase of an expansion make that available even if you are F2P, so that extra toon slots might be unlocked by buying certain expansions. I know that happened when the expansion came out but that kind of a deal may no longer be available. You'll just have to check before you invest in any of that, if you do. The fine print at the bottom of that page says you get certain things for the expansions but be careful before you buy. However, Mines of Moria, for example, wouldn't be needed for some time if you did the F2P for the actual zone content as it is fairly high content. Buying it early (may) give you other advantages.
EDIT: I should be around later, like 2100 CST. Also, post your toon name if you make one and I'll look for you.

Made 'Brendar' a human hunter on your server. Got him through the prologue and am checking out the crafting in Combe.
