I'm the same way Aro. Even back in 4th and 5th grade, I would say something in class and no one but me and the teacher got it. I wasn't vulgar or anything back then but definatly had a higher sense of humor then any of my peers.
I don't know at which point I became corrupted, I think I just kinda had it in me, but was locked away until booze unlocked it.

My eleventh grade English teacher wrote my college recommendation essay, and in it he wrote, 'One of the most delightful things about Aro is that I don't even have to look over at her to know that she gets every joke.'
I don't think the stuff we talk about in chat is so bad, actually. We don't swear all that much. And instead of everyone saying "I want to have wild monkeysex with Agnes," you guys can just say "I would like to make sweet, sweet love to Agnes after a walk in the park and a candlelight dinner I cooked myself." See?

Okay, back on topic now.
This thread has become, in my humble opinion, ridiculous. What we have here is a very important question, but I think we are all at a loss. Several people want to make sure we aren't just discriminating against a young person without valid reason, others are definitely concerned about negative influence on the person.
At this point, we have two sides to the issue, and they're not going to come to an easy concensus, as it is a very complex issue. So we need to stop arguing, and figure out how to DEAL with the issue.
We've already invited this other player in, so we have to look at our options. I actually do have a 3rd option in mind I would like to propose.
Options:
1) Let them in as a full fledged member, and let guild members censor themselves as they see fit.
2) Kick them out of the guild now in as much of a polite manner as possible to avoid further drama.
3) *MODERATE* their access. We could have a rule that guild members under 18 years old are welcome in the guild but with restrictions. They will NOT have access to the "Victorious Eyes Only" forum, but they will of course have access to Public and Raids so they can participate in some talks, sign up for some guild runs, etc. At the same time, put them in a NEW membership group in the guild, one that does *NOT* have access to Guild Chat but of course has access to the ENL channel. Those of us who are not usually on the ENL channel may as well go ahead and join it since it's good for recruits anyway. That way there can be some limited chatter on the ENL channel, continue on like normal with Guild Chat, and we don't *shove* anyone away. By the same token it's entirely possible that if we implement this he may just leave all on his own for some less mature and more "available" guild.
Thoughts?

I thought Killian had alread set up #3. That's the picolletto (sp?) rank. The idea was to change it so that Picolletto members couldn't see guild chat.

All the easier then if that's the case.

We all think too much. It's very simple, do we want to be around children when we play. It's a choice, we can make it, and we shouldn't feel bad about it at all.
My son plays occasionally and you notice, he isn't in the guild. And I am on vent when he is preoccupied or in bed. It's my choice, not his. I'm his parent. There are mature 15 year olds, yes. There are teenagers that 'get it'. That's not really the point I think. I think the point is there are ADULTS who don't want to be put in that position period. It's their right to play and be free in their own little virtual safe haven. There is a place for these teenagers, I'm just not sure it's with us.

which will probably make them leave.. what's the point in being in a guild if you can't be in guild chat? can't even SEE guild chat?
Let's say we do kick this kid. Do we ask ages on future apps or go with the "don't ask, don't tell" and let the app speak for their maturity. Ignorance is bliss.

Yup. Don't ask, act like a tard, get booted, no discrimination except for the kind that allows you to sleep at night.

Don't ask don't tell. I'm sorry that this first kid is going to have to get the boot, but I do agree that it's a safe haven for y'all as adults. I'm cool with that, and I understand.

Not that this has anything to do with anything, but I'm in favor of asking age and gender on the apps, but just because I'm the nosy sort.

I'd still rather just seal it as adults only, although I see where everyone is coming from. I also understand that majority will rule, and I won't take it at all personally if the majority prefers we let in minors. :)

I prefer that we go with the don't ask, don't tell policy regarding age and gender on the app, BUT that we note on the app as well that we are a group of mature players and working adults and that our guild reflects this fact. Also, regardless of how long a trial period is, I think we should not invite anyone that hasn't been in a group with at least one or two guild members so they can come back and discuss on the app. Even setting aside the whole age question, one thing I do *NOT* want to see is suddenly people speaking 1337 in guild chat, regardless of age. ;)
I think our recruitment thread really does cover what VS is and is not.

I think its a good idea you took the age/sex off the application. We are all here to play a game so what difference does it make our age our sex? It's all about how we interact, and our game edict. If we don't know how old someone is we will just be ourselves, and not even think twice about language or topics spoken. Most people who play this game are responsible enough that if they do not like the conversation they can just leave the guild. And if we get someone who is as annoying as heck are we not going to boot them regardless of their age anyway? I know for myself personally, I can be very rude and crass at times and new gulidies will not stop me from being this way. If I group with them and we get along then we chat. Its easy to tell from grouping and chatting with someone if they are someones company you will enjoy who cares what age they are???
As for the new recruit shinofan (I think was his name???) I already know his age so I personally will be cautious of what I say when he is on. This is a personal choice because I would never talk the way I do in the game around my children or anyones children for that matter. But again that's a personal choice and Aro may be right over time who know I will probably not even think about him being there unless he becomes obviously 15 through chat. Besides I have been on a vent a few time and some adults (I use that word lightly :)) talk like 15 year old horn dogs anyway :)
Anyway I am new to the guild so not sure what my opinion matters, but there ya go my 2 cents anyway :)

I voted Yes, keep it adults only. I am glad to see that we can have a discussion without half the guild /gquitting and running away crying snotty tears because they didn't get their way. I respectfully suggest that we should vote on whether to have age/gender questions removed from the guild app. I also respect you all and will go with majority rule on these issues. Happy trails.
