Nomad is still in Kuwait. He said they should be there only about another week or so. It's getting really crowded where he is, tons of soldiers arrive daily there. He's bored out of his freakin' mind but is surviving. He has internet access but he has to pay for it, so he's waiting until that's necessary... because I want him to sink all of his money into phone cards. WHAT?? SHUP. I miss him. :(

He hopes that all of you are getting nightly visits from the purple epic fairy. The end. Anybody got some Kleenex?

Sher, we can sink some of our money into phone cards too. Give us some details of what type and where to send. :)

You guys are just the best. And yup, Rin, that's absolutely the best place for a non-military member to buy the right phone cards. The only problem right now is they are still in transition, so I don't have an address or phone or anything. Once he gets to his FOB in Iraq, he should be able to get me an address.

We have to be patient, that's all. *sigh* I'll keep you guys informed! Wow, I'm like, all verklempt now and shit..

DAMN YOU NICE PEOPLE!!! ;)

So, this is the newest information I have on what life is like right now for the soldiers in Nomad's unit while they are in Kuwait:

As mentioned, we're all in Kuwait (minus a few Soldiers) getting ready for our movement north into Iraq. Let me give you a quick idea of the standard day at Camp Behring. Wake up in most companies is around 0500. Not surprisingly, this is very easy because our internal clocks are all out of whack! After taking care of personal hygiene, Soldiers are falling out of the tents between 0530 and 0600 to do PT. This is a nice time of the day because the sun is coming up, the wind is minimal and the temperatures are cool. After PT Soldiers shower, clean up their areas and go to chow. The food is excellent and plentiful. The other night, for example, we feasted on T-bone steak, crab legs and shrimp. Breakfast is standard Army fare (bacon, eggs to order, waffles, etc.). After breakfast companies form up and move out to training. Training is focused on refining skills that we’ll need in Iraq. With the exception of weapons training, most training events end mid-afternoon giving the soldiers an hour or 2 before dinner to unwind. Dinner is from 1730-2030. After dinner, units conduct lecture-type training and clean weapons in preparation for the next day’s training.

Sounds fun huh? At least they are eating well. They probably will be deploying to Iraq soon, which will throw my stress level into overdrive. The FOB is relatively safe (though that recent ammo dump explosion thing set my nerves on an even sharper edge). Keep thinking good thoughts. Good JuJu, people, GOOD JUJU!

Ok, here's the latest... they are still in Kuwait, might be there on into November, but that's not for sure. BUT, they have given us an address to send them goodies.

Illegal stuff include: pork products (don't ask), pornographic materials, illicit drugs, etc. Stuff like that.

We appreciate you guys and anything you care to send to keep in his mind that there's a world out here aside from the sand and death is very welcome.

They did a drill the other day, something about how to react if your vehicle rolls over or something. Apparently, the Hum-V's are very topheavy now that they are armored and so they have a lot of deaths/accidents with the vehicles rolling over and soldiers not knowing how to react. So they rigged up this Hum-V on a tether-type thing and they roll the soldiers over in it... or something like that. I thought that little tidbit was kinda funny and interesting. Mike said 'it was fun' and I snorted at him.

They are training a lot, and eating a lot. You'll be happy to know your tax dollars are being well spent on food for the soldiers. They had steak and shrimp the other night. He's actually had to stop eating lunch, because it was just too much food in one day. I'm a comfort junkie so it makes me feel good to know that they at least have THAT to look forward to during the day.

More when I get more.

Sherica, Fox and I tried to send a phone card but when I went to put in my credit card info, it would not let me enter a Canadian address... it let me say "Canada" but then it said my postal code was not a valid zip code and there was no option for provinces in the "state" drop-down menu. I sent them an email and they never got back to me.

We'd still like to contribute. Any suggestions?

Aww, you guys are so great.

The phone card thing, it's tricky. I bought $60 worth of cards before I really thought about it and they were totally useless from their 'special' phones. So, they do have to be specific. BUT, like the Kroger cards I bought, if you call the phone card number for customer service, they might be able to direct you to the right place to buy the right cards. It's a bit of a runaround, and don't feel obligated to do it! He doesn't get to call THAT often, but the thought is just incredibly sweet of everyone.

Send him stupid, funny stuff if you get a hankerin'. Lighten the spirit, lighten the load!

love everyone and thanks again

So, his brigade has arrived at their FOB safely. Which is great, because I was worried as they had to fly into Baghdad then fly out on helicopters to their base.

He said he's all moved in, got our pictures on the walls, and ready to work. So, that's good. I guess...

Go Army. Hooah.

FOR THE LAST TIME!!! A new address:

Let's hope that's the end of it. :) I removed the other bad addresses and modified my first post about what NOT to send with the good address. *crosses fingers*

Things that were sent to the other addresses should get there, this just helps with the sorting.

I don't usually do this, but there might be some information here to help you wonderful individuals who want to help out folks like me, with soldiers overseas.

Apparently, periodically, they have to cease communication with the 'outside' world occasionally (email, phone, etc.) which fucking sucks, but I'm sure they have their valid reasons. Anyway, FINALLY, Mike emailed me again and he said that he has gotten the letters that I've sent him, so the mail system is working fine. He's busy as shit and didn't get to say much more than that to me, which is fine because all I really wanted to hear is I'M OK!!! so I can get through this week. :D

Yes, I'm a drama queen. WHATEVER!

I'd really like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to you guys who keep sending me the positive-spin links about the situation in Iraq. It helps so much to read that one article discussing the positives of why we are going through this. Thanks again.

Stay safe.

I updated the old address posts with a BRAND! NEW! ADDRESS!

Once again, the old address is good (for now) so whatever has been sent should still get there (for now). I know he's gotten a few things from me, so it should arrive with no problems (for now).

I'm hoping this is the final revision.
