Sherica! Start joining some raids and instances dammit! Got to get some of these people to meet the doberman!
Yeah! But Alaska time is tough. One of these days we'll get her grouped with us again :)
Anyway, here's my 1.5 cents on this topic: Clearly the poll says to keep recruitment closed. What we need to define is exactly what that means!
The WoW VS thread has a big disclaimer at the top saying we are currently not accepting new applicants (okay, I'm guessing on this one, because I can't even find that post at the moment, but I believe that's what we put on it during closed enrollment). That alone (I hope) will deter most people from applying. If someone is forum trolling for a new guild and sees that, I think they would move on and keep looking.
What if someone approaches a VS member in-game and shows interest in our guild? At this point, talk to them and get a feel for what they are looking for. If they start talking about phat lewts, nightly raids, uber gear and the sort, then politely tell them to F* off! But if they seem okay, point them towards theenlightened.org to register and send in an app. Fair enough? I personally have only been approached in-game once about our guild (and it was during a "closed recruitment" period). Although it was a very brief conversation, I could tell this person was an idiot, and before I could even use the "We are not currently recruiting" line, he logged off! So, use your best judgement, but I don't think we need to turn *everyone* away, just the assclowns. And...and this is a big AND...if you're not sure how to handle someone looking to join, you can always ask them to talk to any officer.
And of course those who know someone in VS will always be welcome to apply.
Ya! What Widget said! I think that's what we've been doing lately anyway, right?
I guess the real question is: do we want to leave the VS Application thread with the disclaimer "Recruitment Closed"?

I agree with what everyone just said.
I further support Maligner's supporting of everyone's statements.

We have enough already! I mean there's Torrin and.... And well, Torrin is enough all by himself.

Ok, this conversation went all of over the place (predictably), so let me try to summarize.
1) We aren't going to be soliciting recruits. No posts in the WoW forums or spamming Guild Recruitment channel.
2) Friends & Family are welcome to apply, and will go through the typical Application -> Initiate -> Sgarrista process.
3) Random people who find our site, or talk to one of our members are welcome to apply. They will also go through the Application -> Initiate -> Sgarrista process.
The only point in question, I guess, is number 3. If you have serious beef with #3, please post here or talk to one of the officer types. If we don't hear anything, then we can all move on and get folks into the guild.

I vote to kick Rin out of the guild! Umm, sorry, wrong thread...
I updated the recruiting thread to reflect what we're currently doing.

i am fine with the sponsorship system. i have several friends irl that have started playing recently and only am sponsoring 2 of the 5 or 6 for guild membership. i would never want to sponsor someone that i thought would be a problem and I'm sure that everyone else feels the same way. and that is one of the many things that makes this guild great!
as far as #3 goes (the random applicants that find our site), i feel like the applicants' answers to the questions in the application give a pretty good look at the person's sense of humor, maturity level, etc.
I am just fine with the current recruitment policy. and love that everyone else hates those guilds that recruit in the general chat just to build numbers as much as i do... jeez, what garbage!
