You ain't had shit until you had chicken and waffles.

Yes, yes you need this. This is win. Pure win. On a plate. A plate of win with a side of win.

Since we will be in the south(ish), we need a Soul Food tour for them canucks.

You ain't had shit until you had chicken and waffles.

Spoken like a Seatlean (is that what they call someone from Seatle?)...

St. Louis is probably about 5 hours from what I would consider the South, actually its considered the gateway to the west (or the beginning of the "mid-west")...
You can probably get chicken, and you can probably get waffles... but I would be surprised to find a place that served good Chicken and Waffles that was correctly southern.

I know of a great place in Atlanta, but not as far north as St. Louis. I just wouldn't trust mid-westerners to make me chicken and waffles...

So it looks like I'll be getting in to St.Louis on the 17th on flight AC7987 from Toronto, landing sometime around 4:30pm. Any other Canadians on the same flight? Anyone else getting in at about the same time?

As soon as you get flight times figured out if you want to post them here or PM me with them, we can work out pick-up times.

I won't be the only one with a car, so we won't have any trouble picking everyone up and getting them back to the Hotel on Friday.

I will be headed in that direction on Thursday with a stop at Shiloh National Cemetery and Shiloh National Military Park. I'll leave and drive a little while longer and stop for the night. I can be in St. Louis pretty early Friday if needed. Homreker, I'll pm you with contact information a few weeks before.

Agreed. St. Louis is "up North" and full of Yankees. I do, however, appreciate any Yankee who appreciates Soul Food so I will not be too hard on Torrin this time. If you really like Soul Food, Memphis has a couple of good places.

Also, Shrimp n Grits > Chicken and Waffles.

I had Shrimp n Grits at Ragtime on Jacksonville beach for dinner Friday...
It had bacon in it and was full of win!

What is your airline/flight number, Ras? I'm putting this all in my spread sheet.

Also, anyone else who hasn't chimed in on flight info please do so, or PM me.

Also, we only have a couple weeks left on the guaranteed rooms for the block. So if you're planning on coming please, please, please, get your room by the end of next week.

Food info:
I have requests for Indian and Italian.
I have a great Italian restaurant in mind that several of us have tried already and loved, so we will do that again.
I have asked the hotel for an Indian food suggestion. I found a good candidate on CitySearch, but I'm waiting on a suggestion from the hotel manager who is from India.
I was thinking of BBQ for one night. Its less formal and there is, after all, a BBQ style named after St. Louis so there must be a good restaurant there for BBQ...

More coming soon.

My flight is a Toyota Camry and it arrives whenever it gets there. Dondoh and I will probably be on the road in the AM.

I guess I should have included this... I knew you guys were driving, lol.

The drivers I have accounted for (tell me if I'm wrong):
Trianna/Dondoh
Linn/Shadian
Amonsul
Homreker/Arachne

I think that gives us 17 seats including drivers seats and middle seats in the back. That's going to be tight, so we may need to sit on laps or something... but we're all friends here so it should be all good.

Seriously, we only have 15 signed up for hotel rooms at this moment, so we will see how many more we have before the end of next week before I start worrying about lap-sitting.

OK, so my plans are being partially interrupted by an annoyance...
The really cool Live Band Karaoke place has apparently closed due to disputes with the property management company. This disappoints me more than you can know...

So, as a result of this (and a couple people arriving late). I'm going to nix BBQ night and combine it with Karaoke night.

If you would rather skip out on the Karaoke/Burgers night, and want to go do BBQ instead, let me know and I will give you the name and address of the place that the hotel suggested.

Yes, Linn and I will also be leaving in the AM on the 17th. What time we arrive will depend on what time I get Linn up :)

If Linn just sleeps in the car then you won't have to wake her up at all

Oh no, I will definitely need to be awake to comment on everyone else's horrible driving on the interstate, the lack of Dairy Queens, creepy roadside signs, and fight over control of the stereo.

I've entered round 17 of deliberation with my coworkers and employers. I will confirm one way or the other by the end of next week.

Sweet!! We'll have to hook up at the Toronto airport. I presume you are connecting from Ottawa?
