After the shitty week I have had...the above six posts made me laugh harder than I have in a long time. You folks rule.

I'm an artist - an oil painter, specifically. I believe my website's in my profile. I paint a fair share of people's portraits, but right now I'm doing lots and lots of dog portraits. Painterly realism on a fairly large scale. I've taught art classes and workshops for years - everything from elementary (on state-funded grant programs) through adult professionals at my studio. I illustrated magazines with Bernstein & Andriulli reps in NYC for a few years, but hated the direction my portfolio was headed. Being a painter also lets me stay at home and raise my 6 month old daughter (which is a full-time job in itself). Her bedtime is 7:00-7:30 (if I'm lucky), which is why I'm online so late.
I'm also heavily involved with a jazz radio station 89.1 KMHD (kmhd.fm). I have a show on Wednesday evenings from 6-9pm, and chair the programming committee. We're one of the last few straight-ahead jazz stations in the country, and I believe one of the best.

You be nice. Plasmo does very nice Corgi paintings, and therefore I must stick up for him. :)

Well if the name didnât give it away, I took multimedia development in college. Currently I work for an ISP here in Canada I work on the Intranet site, I mostly handle the content side of things trying to make sure the information is up to date.
My true passion is in graphics and website development hoping to move into that, but I am really a go with the flow sort of person so we will just have to see where the wind blows me! Until then this pays the billsâ¦.

Gonna bump this thread since the I've always found it fascinating. Not only do we have and ASS TON of new people, but I'm pretty sure a lot of the previous posters (including myself) do something different now.

Oh... here goes.
My title is Senior Software Services Technician. Long story short... my company makes battery backup systems. When those battery systems are powering computers, the computers need to know power status. I manage the support offerings for this global companies software products.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something... but this should just about cover most of it.

Here's a quick bullet point list of what I have to do...
- 2nd Tier support for the 13 sales offices and the hundreds of distributors
- Develop and deliver technical and sales trainings to international audiences
- Design, code, and upkeep the web portal that is our sales and service website. The database driven web development I do is my favorite part of the job, by far.
- Design and code the internal processes that allow for license distribution and Software Assurance Plan management
- Play WoW
- Go to customer sites for both pre-sale consultation and post-sale troubleshooting for larger data-center class installations
- Pretend to care
I'm sure I'm forgetting something... but this should just about cover most of it.

Good idea Bren.
I am an international trade lawyer, and for the last nine years I've worked at a small U.S. Government agency that deals with the effects of trade on the U.S. economy and companies. I also work on patent-based cases against imported goods (best one so far involved condoms). It's a great place to work -- good people, generally interesting work (hey, we're talking lawyer work here, so it's a pretty low bar), and reasonable hours (especially compared to being at a law firm, which is where I used to be).
One of the best parts of the job is that a few times a year I go on plant tours of manufacturing facilities,-- I've been to a whole lot of steel mills (being up close and seeing molten steel being poured is pretty bizarre), a lumber mill, a pasta factory, a salmon farm, a semiconductor fab facility, and a shrimp processing facility, just to name a few.
But at the end of the day, yah, I'm a lawyer. Which explains why I like to escape to the pretendy fun-time game whenever I can!

Dammit Raps! Where were you when I was having all my power supply issues!
As most of you know I finally got away from my shitty work situation at a small business that did advertisement services (not to be confused with marketing, we basically crunched numbers on all the print ads that ran for a specific company) and co-op work for big retailers' customer rebates.
Now I work at FedEx World Headquarters on a decision support system for engineers. It's about as different as it can possibly be, 'cause, y'know, GIANT GLOBAL CORPORATION.

last time i wrote in here, i was a graduate assistant, now i'm a teaching assistant, except at my university, teaching 'assistant' actually means 'we throw you into two classes of about 25 people each and say 'go nuts'!'
so i teach 18 yr olds how to form coherent arguments, resulting in adventures of dadaist proportions

Right now I'm working at a structured afterschool program. Normal afterschool programs can load kids up on junk food and play time and call it a day, so how we differ is we actually have to teach the kids something everyday. Effectively I teach pre-k, K, and 1st graders long after their tolerance for the school day has expired.
After the baby I'm thinking of a career switch. I was originally going to go back to school to finish a teaching degree so I could work with kids while they were still somewhat cooperative, but now I'm so burned out with the whole teaching thing that I think I'm going to go into law enforcement and follow the family into prison (most of my family are Correction Officers, not prisoners... I swear!). The benefits rock, the pay is okay, and if the kids get lippy with you, you can lock them in their cell and ignore them.

I still work at a library buttttt I am probably going to be studying poetry hardcore for two years instead of getting my MLIS. Because poetry is more fun and I shall get massive amounts of cute college boy fanboys (the kind that wear those little french beany hats.. mmmm.... french bread).

My job has changed... I am now a Production Operations Analyst (heh.. anal.) for a company called eNom, more specifically, Demand Media.
Demand Media is, well.. a media company. Specializing in 'Web 2.0' stuff. This means that we make a site of some sort, get users to sign up and provide 100% of the content and we get paid for it through advertising and membership fees. Some of the big sites included Cracked.com, Golflink.com, eHow.com and Expertvillage.com.
My job is making sure all these sites remain available and when they don't perform as expected I create a shitstorm waking up developers and engineers and continually whip them with barbed leather until the problem is resolved.
I haven't been around too much since getting this new job but I have heard some comments on how 'Torrin isn't as much of a dick anymore' and that is because I now get PAID to be a dick and when I get home I am.. um. all dicked out.

I just want you guys to know that Rinader is the smartest, most underpaid computer operator i know. He doesn't actually work in the field that he is most qualified. He should be paid millions for the ability to fix computers.
As for me i own a Comic and Card shop. So basically i read comics and play WoW all day long. I do get in a fair share of Magic the gathering as well.
I used to be a General Contractor but had to quit due to the fact that i always wanted to kill people. Why you ask? because i would want to develop land that my family has owned for 100 years and be told that people now like to catch butterflies there and we shouldn't develop it. Although we must still pay taxes on it as if we could develop it :) I am much more calm now and i collect butterflies in other peoples properties.

You can't use comic book guy against comic book guy! That'll cause like a time rift thingy. With the bugs and the screaming and the board with a nail in it.

Wow, I never replied to this? Might as well fill out the list. I do several things that make me money.
My primary job is your usual IT Tech Support for Dell, specifically supporting their XPS line - essentially their high-end multimedia/gaming machines. So I talk to gamers all day about games and how to make their computers run the Crysis demo.
I have two side jobs that I do on a contract basis, mainly for family and friends. The first is catering, because I have a bizarre love of cooking. Sometimes large events, sometimes small dinner parties.
Second side job is music related. I do mastering and touch-up work for some local bands in Ottawa. To explain what this is, a few examples are like.. I can take a grainy recording and make it sound professional, or if you have a song that you think would be better with say.. a cello, I can hook that up. FOR A PRICE.
Err, yeah. Peace out.
