I'm not sure how many of you check out www.wowinsider.com but its a really great site.
They have many different bloggers and one of them deals with guilds. Running them, raid advice, drama, etc.
I was wondering if anyone would be opposed to my sending an email about the events we sometimes run.
We've had a bunch and some have worked better than others. (My favorite is still the Holy Grail parody which I didn't have any input in) This thread however has probably the best write up on any of our events.
I've been considering editing it and sending it in to share with other readers. So I edited out any mention of our members, officers, or guild name.
Since it does affect so many other people though I wanted to run it past everyone else before I did anything about it. So, what say you all? Good idea? Bad idea? Did I miss editing out something?
Discuss here, or if you would like your opinion to be kept private send me a PM. I won't be sending it until I find out what other people think :)
It will look something like this:
THE START
Sapphyre will gather everyone on the boat between Auberdine and Darnassus. That way no one can leave and do shit while we are getting organized. Sapphyre will collect 5 gold from each participant - if they are under level 60 we will only charge them 2 gold.
We will create teams of 4 AGENTS each - all 70s. And we will create another group that are going to be the SPIES that will hook up with these teams later. Note that no one except us will know the teams at this time.
SPIES
While on the boat, Sapphyre will hand out letters to all the SPIES that reads as follows:
Congratulations! You are now a top secret SPY. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to log off and create a new Night Elf Rogue. Once in game, join rogueagents channel (/join rogueagents) and await further instructions. Be sure to keep your identity top secret except to your commanding officer! (This event is themed around James Bond so feel free to use this information when naming your new toon.)
Foxfyr will be logged in as Foxfyr and will be in the rogueagents channel. As people join the channel, he will send each a whisper and get their real identity.
/w XXX Welcome, spy. Please identify yourself.
Then in rogueagents channel, Foxfyr will address all the SPIES as follows:
/rogueagents Welcome spies! Your first job is to find your way to Darnassus and train stealth at the trainer. Intelligence informs us that you must be at least a level 2 spy to attain this and it will cost 9 copper. Get there as quickly as possible, your team is counting on you!
As the SPIES approach the trainer, Foxfyr will hand them this letter (he will need to have these prepared ahead of time):
Disguise is very important in this business. You must learn to blend with your environment. Once you have trained stealth, get to the Deepwater Tavern in Menethil Harbor where your team will be looking for you. In order for them to identify you, you need to (each one will have a different command)
a) act like a chicken on the bar
b) flirt with the bartender
c) tell jokes to Junder Brokk
d) sit at a table and acting like a train
e) give hugs and kisses to all who are in the tavern
f) wander around the bar talking to themselves
AGENTS
Everyone will still be on the boat and all of a sudden will see the SPIES log off and will have no clue what is going on. Meanwhile, Frenial will be standing by a mailbox and will start mailing letters to the AGENTS (2 letters to each team member):
Letter 1 - Team Powers:
You are now part of Team Powers consisting of *members*. We have also assigned your team a SPY who is on their way to meet you at a secret meeting point. Your SPY is a little less experienced than we would have liked so you will need to pick up some gear for them. Collect 10x Raw Longjaw Mudsnapper which will be used as spy cameras.
Letter 1 - Team Bond:
You are now part of Team Bond consisting of *members. We have also assigned your team a SPY who is on their way to meet you at a secret meeting point. Your SPY is a little less experienced than we would have liked so you will need to pick up some gear for them. Collect 10x Raw Longjaw Mudsnapper which will be used as spy cameras.
Letter 1 - Team Mission Implausible:
You are now part of Team Mission Implausible consisting of *members*. We have also assigned your team a SPY who is on their way to meet you at a secret meeting point. Your SPY is a little less experienced than we would have liked so you will need to pick up some gear for them. Collect 10x Raw Longjaw Mudsnapper which will be used as spy cameras.
Letter 1 - Team Rosenberg:
You are now part of Team Rosenberg consisting of *members*. We have also assigned your team a SPY who is on their way to meet you at a secret meeting point. Your SPY is a little less experienced than we would have liked so you will need to pick up some gear for them. Collect 10x Raw Longjaw Mudsnapper which will be used as spy cameras.
Letter 1 - Team Mata Hari:
You are now part of Team Mata Hari consisting of *members*. We have also assigned your team a SPY who is on their way to meet you at a secret meeting point. Your SPY is a little less experienced than we would have liked so you will need to pick up some gear for them. Collect 10x Raw Longjaw Mudsnapper which will be used as spy cameras.
Letter 2 - to everyone:
Once you have gathered your items, speak to Bei in Thunderbrew Distillery. Unfortunately, Bei has been drinking again so you should probably bring her some food to sober her up. Bring her 5x Beer Basted Ribs. Bei will direct you further when you have completed these tasks. Hurry! Your spy awaits you!
Once Frenial gives the go ahead, Sapphyre will address the AGENTS in raid chat as follows:
/raid OK, you all know the rules... GO (waits a few seconds then says) You have mail..
This will, of course, cause much chaos and people asking... wtf? But we will remain silent.
Lux will be logged in as Bei at Thunderbrew Distillery and drinking constantly (in-game and in RL!). She will need to stall all the teams until all the SPIES are at location in Menethil. She can do this in any way she likes. :) For example, she can tell them she is still hungry and wants 5x Charred Wolf Meat. And then if they come back she can say it tasted bad so now she wants 5x Roasted Boar Meat. She will also have to keep track of the order of the teams as they approach her. Once the SPIES are in place, she will send a tell to each team leader as follows:
/w XXX I've just gotten in trouble from Emme. You need to go to her immediately at the docks in Menethil Harbor. She's in a mood, so I suggest you bring her some Flagon of Mead which you can purchase at the Deepwater Tavern in Menethil Harbor.
UNITING THE TEAMS
Sapphyre will be logged in as Emme in the corner of the docks at Menethil.
When the AGENTS arrive in Menethil they will enter the tavern where the SPIES are doing crazy things but will have no clue what the hell is going on. After getting the mead, they will go find Emme on the docks. Emme will hand them two letters:
You must unite with your spy who can be found in Deepwater Tavern (each one will have a different command)
a) acting like a chicken on the bar
b) flirting with the bartender
c) telling jokes to Junder Brokk
d) sitting at a table and acting like a train
e) giving hugs and kisses to all who are in the tavern
f) wandering around the bar talking to themselves
Then Emme hands them each a letter as follows:
Escort your SPY to Southshore. Collect Red Firework Rockets on your journey and use them in the centre of Southshore to attract the hidden contact. Your SPY may not have experienced death: enlisting the aid of a Spirit Healer may be faster in some circumstances. You cannot use your own skills to ressurect or summon your SPY. Nor can you heal, shield or buff your SPY. Hunters also cannot use any pack type of aspect. These activities will cause enemy spies to attack!
A LITTLE PVP
Frenial will be logged in as Queue and will be standing in Southsore near the centre of town. When a team fires a rocket, he will run up to them and hand them this letter then vanish:
Your SPY needs to gain some combat experience. They must flag themselves immediately (/pvp). Your team can flag if they wish but it is up to you to decide. Get your entire team to the bridge between WPL and EPL as quickly as possible where an agent awaits you.
Right before they reach the bridge, Killian will have his horde (Penance) toon take out the SPY!
THE RACE
Agnes will be logged in as Agnei and hand them their next letter:
Find Adon. Use any resources you wish.
MORE RACING
Killian (Known on the forums as The Don) will then need to log out his horde toon and log in as Killian right next to Adon. When they arrive at Adon, Killian will hand them this next letter:
Surely you can find our missing agent among the enemies at Silvermoon City. She is disguised as a frog by the waterfall in Still Whisper Pond.
THE END
Shirly will be logged in and hiding in the pond. First team to arrive will win!
Shirly will also hand them a level 5 mask and tell them to level up their SPY so they can wear the disguise. Once everyone arrives, we will send all the SPIES into Silvermoon City to see who gets the furthest!

I think that, if they don't have problems with it, you might use officer names ( or perhaps psuedonyms) to give it a little life. Its a really good writeup, but so sterile.

A lot of people read the blogs and I wanted to make sure that this doesn't draw any attention to our guild or site.
There are a lot of morons out there ;)

2 Great memories about that event:
- Me, a lvl 3 Dranei (Named Agnei) parked at the bridge between WPL and EPL and some random toon walking up to me, trying to WARN me about how dangerous it was to be there...not even thinking about how a lvl 3 could possibly have wandered over there in the first place. I was like "Oh? I could die out here? Thanks for the advice!"
- When we had Don's rogue hiding by the bridge to stab the agents while their team was talking to Agnei. GOOD TIMES.

I remembered I had no idea how to tell a joke to someone. o_0 I think I told a dwarf his mum was fat. He was not amused. I still have that blood elf mask somewhere. ^^

I think the officers and the guild have every right to be pround of these events & should use their real names.
Also, putting in weird aliases just makes it look like you stole it from somewhere else & took out the incriminating evidence.

I tend to agree with Gleja. I for one would have no problem with the guild name being in there, and would leave it to the officers involved to decide if they wanted their names in there.

One of my most cherished WoW moments ever was the very first guild event, the scavenger hunt.
Our team (Viraj, Valneron, Jamisia, Arolaide) had made it to Alcaz Island, where Kundera was fishing off the dock. On our way there, we attracted some of the 59-Elite hydras that hang out there, and mayhem was ensuing. Jam was smiting, Aro was frantically healing, Val and I were fearing, and we were probably going to die.
So we brought all the hydras over to the dock and Aro actually went /point at Kundera, as if to say HEY A LITTLE HELP HERE, BUCKO.
And then there was silence. And then Valneron and I died. And I remember Aro saying, over Vent, with astonished pride, "Hey! We made the Don feign!"
It still makes me laugh.
THIS DOESN'T ACTUALLY HAVE MUCH TO DO WITH FOX'S POST (tho I agree with the Glej-bot) BUT MENTION OF GUILD EVENTS MADE ME WANT TO SHARE.

You should have heard the SQUEES and GIGGLING coming from Don and I during that first one when you all had to find random shit in the Barrens flagged and we got Zan to bring on his horde alt to Alert The Horde That The Alliance Was Coming to Attack Org in Droves And They We Docking At Ratchet.
"Where is everyone?" "*Giggle* They're trying to collect Zevhra Hooves but they keep getting killed." Ooooh good times.

I remember doing one where I was a dwarf that was supposed to be a pedo or something and was going to be in the house with the creepy kids out in goldshire but they weren't there so I ran around goldshire punching chickens yelling 'Come're or I'll give ya a knuckle sammich!"

One of my best VS memories was the Holy Grail guild event. We had just finished talking to one of the guys at the top of that building in the Night Elf starting area. My team mate (I forget who it was) decided to save time by jumping off the top and I followed without even thinking. We both died of course. I laughed so hard when I realized that we weren't going to survive the fall.

I totally agree. And while I would love everyone to know how great our guild is, I don't neccessarily want them all applying.
WowInsider gets a lot of readers and I really think its best if the name were left out of it.

I don't think we have to worry to much about asshats applying since our recruitment thread says we are CLOSED. So we can simply tell them no thanks. I don't mind having our names in it, but if anyone objects, I would also be fine leaving it anonymous.

THE RACE
Officer D will be logged in as Officer D and hand them their next letter:
Find Adon (An NPC with a name simaler to one of our officers). Use any resources you wish.
MORE RACING
Officer E will then need to log out his horde toon and log in as Officer E right next to Adon. When they arrive at Adon, Officer E will hand them this next letter:
Surely you can find our missing agent among the enemies at Silvermoon City. She is disguised as a frog by the waterfall in Still Whisper Pond.
Having not done this event, I don't know how these steps worked. I only bring this up because if some other guild out there wanted to emulate our event, they may have trouble figuring this part out with a little further explanation...

Good point, Homreker.... this is sort of an inside joke since we had Killian (The Don) sitting beside Adon (an NPC).
Yes, Agnei (my lvl 3 on the bridge) handed the teams a letter that said, "Go find A Don in EPL" or something like that. Then Don logged out his horde rogue who was killing people on the bridge and popped up as his main toon, standing next to an NPC named "Adon" in EPL.
It was supposed to be a clever little play on words.

Just wanna say thanks for the work you guys put into the guild events. Our last one was the first I got to participate in. I enjoyed it so much! Well worth everyone's time to join in. These events are fun and thought out and the leaders try very hard to make everyone involved have a good time.

I have no issues with the names either....
The only comment I have ... is that it is written from a "planning" perspective rather than a "this is how it happened" perspective. Do we want to change that?
