how this is even going to work? are they going to look at, for instance, a character's pvp kills and then determine that they are a violent extremist?

Yay! Another fine example of your tax dollars at work (well, not you Canadians')!
Remember -- be afraid! Be very afraid! Then surrender your civil liberties in the name of freedom!

"Then" surrender our civil liberties? The word "then" is the wrong tense. I think "Continue to" is more accurate. Our Great Republic's representitives and it's leading administration have taken away so many rights and privacies in the last 6.5 years that it will take decades to undue the damage.
Remember kids... there are five lights, not four. Also, 2 + 2 really does = 5.
/i'm not usually this much of a tin-foil hatter... but this topic really chaps my hide

I for one applaud the technological advancements brought to us by the Ministry of love. Oceania is the better for it.

I remember a while ago reading about how we always bust up these terror cells by catching them posting plans on 'jihadist websites' and chat rooms. Maybe its just a symptom of having been converted to 'the man', but I thought to myself that they'd be much safer discussing these things within WoW, and that I was suprised they weren't trolling for it there. I guess the government finally thought of that too.

Regardless of the fact of once our personal freedoms are removed piece by piece and they will not be coming back; the United States government as of late has not been the most forward thinking kid on the block. I add to this bloodbath the fact that we still have an ultra-right wing zealot on the presidential ballot who wants science textbooks to refer to dinosaurs as "Jesus Horses".

I'm assuming you are referring to Mike Huckabee? He, thankfully, doesn't stand a snowballs chance in Hellfire Peninsula. But you are correct... his positions scare me. The last thing we need is another president that will discount the scientific community because it doesn't fit his view of the world.
A user (glenlivid) on the website www.fark.com once posted a statement in response to why countries like Iran should not have "the bomb".
America should not be allowed to have the bomb because their government is run by Christian fundamentalists.
It's funny when the shoe is on the other foot, eh?

Dead on, Raps. I also find it ironic how the hate-mongers like Limbaugh and that craven hag Ann Coulter have begun to feast upon their own when they feel their power base slipping away from them.

You guys. Let's keep the talks more WoW-centric and not so political or The Man is going to lock the thread.

But seriously. I have always been a very outspoken poltical person. My duties as an officer in the US Armed Forces have really tested my abilities to keep that to myself. That being said, the VS Forums aren't the place for political discussions. We are happy to be members of VS for all kinds of reasons, and one of the reasons I like best is the diversity of the people here- we are all mature adults from all kinds of lives and backgrounds, so lets use that maturity to recognize when sharing our certain opinions in certain forums isn't the right time or place to do that.
<3 all VS.
Even you dirty Republicans :)

Agreed! Sorry if my rant set this off! There are plenty of other places to discuss politics (hell, living in DC, EVERY place is a place to discuss politics)! Thanks for the gentle slap upside the head, Agnes!

I thought the part in brackets was a list of better places to discuss at first. :P

I'll STFU about non-WoW stuff.
To get back to the point of the thread... what exactly are they going to model to determine if someone is a possible terrorist? Their ability to secure a location in AB? Strategy and tactics for something like terrorist training isn't really something I'd play WoW for. Counterstrike... sure, but not WoW.
Or is this just chat channel discussions they are going to parse for specific keywords? Obviously they can't monitor third party voice servers like Vent, but they could do in-game voice monitoring (similar to Carnivore and Eschelon).
Meh...
