Sometime shortly after noon today there was an explosion (probable gas leak) in the same complex as the bar Shadowhart works. Here is a link to the story, with video. These are some of the older buildings in the city, and the oldest bar in the county. It opened in 1936 (if I remember correctly).

The video starts out facing north-west, looking at the buildings. At 1:13 of the video it pans left. The very bottom of the shot is the bar we call home away from home. I hope there wasn't any structural damage to it as I'd hate to have her out of a job for any period of time.

Hopefully no one was hurt, but they are still searching the wreckage for people.

If any further information comes along I'll post it. Just thought it was worth posting cause, you know, this is my bar. I love my bar.

I don't think it has any landmark status in the city...so no special funding there. The owner is, as are most dive bar owners I assume, a bit of a tightwad. I doubt he'd go for any major repairs over what NEEDS to be done.

Hopefully my supply of Crown Royal and Jameson is ok. If not, there will be much sadness.

I can honestly say I've only been in one of the other shops in that entire strip in the 20 years I've lived in this city. The bike shop, which is directly next to the bar, is also a billiards place. I picked up a nice cue from there a few years back. Other then that... I know nothing about those other shops.

Talked with the manger of the bar. He's been told that entire strip is closed until further notice pending structural inspections and other paperwork. They are hoping by Saturday, but who knows.

Fortunately, this is the hangout for the cops and firefighters of the city. One reason why I feel safe with her bartending there. If there are any problems, 1/4 of the bar is off duty cops with hidden sidearms. If nothing else... they'll see to it inspections are done sooner then later.

Looks like I'll need to restock the cabinet at home. My whisky supplies are running dangerously low as it is.
