This is funny because just yesterday I was at a German Basic Training graduation watching my girlfriend's little brother become a little soldier. Like in the states, part of the hoopla is letting friends and family see what kind of training they did and get their hands on some of the equipment etc- it even included a lunch in their field mess tent. Let me tell you, I was hard pressed to get through half the meal! And they served beer with it! I work daily with German officers, and now both of Tanja's brothers are soldiers in the Bundeswehr. Our two armies have a great partnership, but I don't let a day go by when I don't remind them that 1.) they left us in Iraq and 2.) They refuse to send their soldiers to Southern or Eastern Afghanistan (where they would be required to do more than hand out candy and soccer balls). I do however congratulate them on their continued efforts in Kosovo, where our own soldiers no longer are even entitled to combat pay.

0-2 and still occupied, suckers. Thanks for the bier, my BMW, and your sister.

Isn't Germany one of the countries that still require you to serve? I know that most, if not all, of the polish/ussr countries do.

submitted before finishing my thought.. which I have now forgotten.

So. yeah, wtf is up with that rotten cabbage they put on everything?
