The last few weeks have been pretty frustrating for Kara runs for a pretty specific reason. Lack of stronger characters signing up.
We don't force anyone to raid so I can't make people sign up but I'd just like to issue a request to people. We've been hitting Kara for a long time and there are many people who probably feel that they don't need anything else from there. I've recently been trying to get Zealot some upgrades so I know I personally have a renewed interest in going but I understand people that aren't anymore. I also understand that people don't sign up so that others have a chance.
The problem is that there just aren't enough characters on the lists to take a balanced, and strong group through. Even if I were to force people not to take their alts we wouldn't be progressing through any faster than we did last night... or any night in the last couple weeks.
I would like to thank the people who have signed up for these last few runs and hope that they continue to do so.
We have a couple people that are just recently getting keyed and I want to assure them that these last couple weeks aren't typical. People (including myself) have been busy and I think we'll get back on track.
-If you've recently decided that you've gotten everything you need from Kara, please consider helping out others as others have helped you.
-If you've recently gotten an alt or main keyed, please ask people who know those classes for advice. And please, please, spend the money to enchant and gem your gear. I've been very careful on my runs to stay positive and make sure that people have fun.... but its always more fun when we do well.
If you feel strongly about not taking the spot of someone that needs the upgrades say so on the sign up.... but please sign up if you can.

I have been having trouble staying awake till 10 (9 server time) let alone 11 (10 server time) recently. Maybe we could do a 8-10 (7-9 server time) Kara raiding and see how much we can get done in that 2 hour period. I know that would work better for me. It is more of a tired thing then not needing items from Kara anymore. JR still needs lots of things from there and it is always fun.

I have no problem with Kara. I still enjoy it, even if there is nothing in there for my main set, other than the damned pocket watch, which I've just about resigned myself to never getting. I could use a few pieces for my DPS set, but with all the alts running through, I usually let those pass.
The -only- reason I haven't been signing up is because the last few weeks have been a little hectic. Nothing more, nothing less.
Though, since you brought it up, I will point out a minor frustration I've had. I know it's my off set, but I do end up in a DPS role. I usually wouldn't take an item from someone's main set, but if I'm helping gear up alts, it can get a little frustrating. </vent>
Gear isn't something I get worked up over at all, but there's always that little nag that says "I could use it, but the rogue could use it more, but that's just an alt..." I haven't been able to come to full terms with this little nag.

I am all for helping others get gear from Kara. And I usually do sign up for Kara when I can make it. I haven't been signing up lately because I have been busy and I have been working on little Lushy, who was neglected for a very long time. However, I will make a point to at least throw my name on the thread as "available only if needed" for times that I can make it. Deal? :D

I would love to see Kara, however, I know i need the Earthwarden and some other loot from heroics... I am just not ready. I wish i could join in but I would hold you all back more than help...

I have to agree with Heck on this one. I would be there a whole lot for if it was 2 hour chunks that ended at 9 server time. For me anything after that is a waste most nights as I get sleepy and do no good for anyone.
Prehaps we could try a few as such and see what happens?

To Jasmes:
You really don't. I took a look at your armory page. Your gear looks a lot like Beam's did when I first started running Kara (though you could use some more enchants -- and grab a Glyph for your helm). Depending on the group, you should do just fine.
One strong suggestion though? Go get the PvP shoulders. See some of the older posts about the best way to grind honor.
I cannot speak for any of the raid leaders, but to all the people who think you aren't ready? Sign up and say so in your post. If the RL decides you're ready, then you're ready. :)

The problem for me with two hour chunks is the same problem in a different form - time management. I know that's a big piece of a casual guild, but if we tried to do Kara in two-hour chunks, that would take us four+ days. I just don't want to spend that many days a week playing WoW. So if we do decide to do that, I'd say we should do it every other week. HI OFFICERS LET'S MAKE SCHEDULING EVEN MORE SHITTASTIC FOR YOU.
If we do two hour chunks, it's also going to be important to start on time, which is often difficult as flexible as we are. People often drop out at the last minute (which is fine, again, if I didn't like that flexibility I wouldn't be here), which means we don't get started sometimes until half an hour late. Running Kara for an hour and a half isn't going to be worth the time unless we want to exclude new players/alts completely.
Not saying we shouldn't do it at all, just giving the other side.

I'm with Heck on this. I'm also with Ing. How non-helpful can I be?
Seriously, I'd love to make Kara part of my regular activities, but Shaerl - my prime, not even an alt - got roughly up to stats just to *start* Kara last Fall, but then the holidays and work stuff revved up and I just didn't have the time. I've since started a new job, and am getting back into a normal groove, but I can't be zoning out at work at this stage, so 10pm server (11pm local) is late for me to guarantee I can be on and still participating. I'm usually up that late anyway - and often online that late - but I hate to sign up for things a week in advance only to discover the day of the event that I've got something going on at work the next day for which I really need my beauty rest.
The shorter runs that take more nights would be easier for me. If I knew something was going to end at 9pm server, I'd be better able to plan around it. That said, if I never go to Kara again... *shrug*. If I were hot about raiding, I'd be in a raiding guild in my own time zone. :)

I like doing the kara runs. I prefer when we separate it in 3, not 2 as I get tired by the last hour and want it to be over sooner. Our time is 1 hour later than server time so by the end it's 11pm and I get up at 4:45am now for work, so it's really pushing it. I would prefer if it ended at 10 (9 server) instead.
As for the not ready part that Jasmes said, when I started doing Kara I had never even done a heroic at all. (I still have only done a few and actually find them harder then kara, and I don't have any drops from there) I mostly got gear from the arenas 5v5 and now from kara. I highly recomend doing arenas. The gear is awesome, (97.5dps daggers for me, way better than the one from kara) they take about 1 hour a week to do 10 games which is all you need (and you can play only 30% of that as long as your team does the 10 games and you will get full points which means you can swap your alts in as well) and eventually you get the gear. Even if you suck at it you still get points and it adds up. A no-stress way to get geared up and be able to do more things like kara and Gruul.

Scheduling runs is always a balancing act. 10pm server (11pm est) is a bit of a strech for me. Maybe some compromise could be made like 10:30. But while finishing later is a problem for some, starting earlier is a problem for others as well. I know some of the people who are coming are rushing to do so and sometimes can't make it on time which makes the raid start late and puts added stress on everyone which is not good either.
It also seems like we have been under a curse lately and we need to find a chicken to sacrifice or something. We have had some very bad luck, coupled with silly mistakes that cause us to wipe and slow things down even more, maybe because we are trying to rush I don't know.
All that being said I feel for the raid leaders and all they are trying to do. They used to have to agonize over who to bring because there were so many sign ups, now we barely have enough to pull off a run. This seems to be a general trend, we have a lot less runs posted and more runs have to be combined or cancelled. Just a crazy time of year I guess.
I will try to help with Doodle and Tig as much as I can.
If you don't see me signed up to something and need help send me a PM and I will come if I can.

I've been really busy with real life events right now. We are getting a float together for a local parade that is on April 29th. After that, I will probably be on more frequently and more able to Kara.
Arachne will likely be getting a job in Kansas starting in August, which means that in addition to everything else that's going on, we have to get our house ready to sell... That means more time away. But at some point I will be more regularly available for Kara type runs again.
I do want to get Gothica keyed so that I have a DPS option for Kara and Arachne is still interested in running more Kara, but her whole dissertation--getting her PhD so she can start the job in August-- thing is sort of sapping her time.
We will be back in full force soon, though... I'm sure of it.

Don't feel bad Hom! We know RL comes first always! :)
Again, serious props to the officers for trying so hard to get everyone what they want and keep everyone happy.

Yes yes yes!
I'm busy too right now and I totally understand. Alls I'm saying is if you are available to go and you like going please sign up. Don't let not needing too many things from there disuade you because we've needed a few ringers for the last little while.

I hear that one day I will want more badges. So as soon as I get a clear week, I'll have Agnes in there again.

Not that I'm on the stronger player side, but once I have the whole feeding my wee beastie on an actual predictable schedule I'll be better able to *cough* manipulate *cough* his schedule to allow me to actually sign up and run stuff.
I'll also have to re-learn how to play Aery, I was stoopid (not just stupid, but stoopid) and re-specced her before my little break. Now I look like a b00b when I run her around /em sigh.

My life is all over the place right now, but once things settle down I'll be more than happy to go to these runs.
