So every year (for many-a-year) Arachne and I have attended Dragon*Con in Atlanta. And, as it turns out, this year will be no different.
We'll be there the whole weekend. Abigayle will also be there with her hubby (my brother). Also, I think Rubrick will be there...
So who else is going? I know we have a few Atlanteans it would be great to get together. And anyone else who wants to come, get yer tickets and find a room...
If you don't know what Dragon Con is: Its the largest Sci-fi/Fantasy/Comic convention in the US (or that's their claim). Last year they told they fire marshal that they had about 19,999 people in attendance, but a little bird told me that they actually sold over 38,000 tickets for the full weekend... (silly fire marshal, I guess he can't count very well...)
Tickets at: www.DragonCon.org

Well I live in the ATL, so I'd love to go! We'll make some plans to hook up.

Hmm, I'm not the dressing up/roleplaying type, but I've got plenty of nerd in me. Sounds like it may be a lot of fun. I'm about 3 1/2 hours away by interstate. Hmmmmm.

This sounds like it will be fun.
I will try to come up with a good place to meet closer to the date... It will likely involve food...

DragonCon may be crawling with roleplayers and people in costume, but it's also a huge gathering of goths, punks, nerds, hippies, and just plain weird people who don't fit any other designation. You can run around the con in street clothes and enjoy the show put on by the people around you including self proclaimed "corset sluts", nearly 1,000 stormtroopers, kiddies in Hogwart's costumes, anime chicks, and many more. There are many kid-friendly events for those of you with families.
Yearly activities include the the Dawn look alike contest (R rated), Masquerade costume contest (PG13), Voltaire concerts, the Art Show, Autograph signings by TV and Movie stars, AF and Fantasy author workshops, Filk-singing (don't ask, I can't explain), Robot Wars, Comic book artists, and the obligatory ride in an elevator full of Klingons.
Come on, it'll be fun!

Sounds like a lot of fun! I don't think I can swing it for this year... but I'll keep it in mind!

This one I will not be able to make. I've always wanted to go to a Con and never had a good shot at it.
However, since I'm buddies with the Gygax, I'm likely going to GenCon this year with uber-special priviledges. That could be very interesting.

Arachne forgot to mention the "Miss Klingon USA Contest" (???)
and the "Adult Costume Contest" (NC-17 Rated)

So following a couple links I ended up at Michael Dorn's wikipedia page.
Am I the only one that noticed that he does the voices for a bunch of npcs in Warcraft?
Have we discussed this before?

He's done them for other games, too. Like, in Fallout II, he voices this big mutant dude, and sometimes when you select him he says "I am not a merry mutant."

Ya, I knew I was hearing Worf in Ironforge yelling at me, but I couldn't remember if I'd ever mentioned it to anyone else.

As Bill Gates owns my soul (and my metadata), I am blissfully ignorant about anything non-Microsoft.
In fact, Guerrior had his Mac flavour laptop today with him; I touched the bezel and it burned me. Damn thing left an apple shaped scar on my palm.

So I'm bumping this as it begins to get closer. If anyone wants to come out for a good time and some incredible costumes.
As it turns out, Arachne, Abigayle and myself will be working the con at a coffee booth for Coffee Shop of Horrors. So, you can probably just stop by and see us at various times. Also, I'd love to set up dinner something...
Anyway, let us know!

i got some coffee from the coffee shop of horrors last year and it was delish!! i will be stocking up again this year! we stopped and talked with the people there last year.
im looking forward to meeting up with some of you guys and shooting the shit!

Heh - the herd of Ghostbusters seems to get larger every year. :)
And if we're going to have a get together I am nominating Trader Vic's as an excellent place to get incredibly drunk. Oh, and they server food if you're into that sort of thing.
Also - the part Homreker forgot to clarify is that we're not just working the Coffee Shop of Horrors booth this year - I took over the business in a hostile takeover move that would make pirates proud. Or I sent the owner an email and told him if he was going to be a loser about things I was going to take over his company, and he was ok with that.
So please come out and support us in our endeavor to caffeinate the world!

Just don't go with anyone who does the Larps, if you are planning on:
1.) Not Larping
2.) Ever seeing them

Larps, no not my cup of tea... don't "think" I know anyone into that... anyway I fear running into my exwife who lives in Atlanta now more than anything...
She may anticipate me showing some day and show up with the intention to catch up and try to worm her way back into my life *cringe*
