I have to say, this hits me pretty hard, not because I knew him, but because everytime I see his face, I smile. Its not just what he is currently saying, which I'm compelled to listen to no matter where I am or what I'm doing, its everything he's said before.

George Carlin was nothing less than a comic icon. He will be missed by everyone, but alas we will remember at least the versitility of "The Word" "All of the words you can't say on TV (it used to be 7, but he increased it to add a few in later years)," and Buddy Christ(which was apparently Carlin's idea, not Kevin Smith's)...

I saw this on the news this morning. Very sad. While I'm obviously not as big a fan as Homreker, I've always loved his material every time I saw or heard it.

Rest in fucking peace indeed.

George Carlin was the man who led me to discover comedians like Bill Hicks and Lenny Bruce, and also led me away from hacks like Dane Cook and half of the people on Comedy Central. As someone who constantly quotes his routines, I will surely miss him and his brilliant comedy.

The world is significantly less funny. :(
