In in-game chat I indicated that my target laughed at one of my curses. Then the converstation began of how I was building my skills.
I'm using the Affliction skill as it ties into my game style more. I tend to want to get into the fight versus letting my demon have all the fun or sitting back and blasting the stuffing out of things with spells.
The goal is to move and kill quickly using very little down time. This means I rarely using potions or sit down to have a drink of what ever fluid that will rebuild my mana. So I can normally move from target to target and generally have mana for a spell that just might save my bacon or keep my demon up and running.
I also us the Voidwalker as my tank as he can keep aggro much better than the Succubus (and I hate the whip and sigh ever few minutes).
It works for me but I'm always open to suggestion. Just remember, I'm trying to get to 60 with as little much as time as possible and still enjoy the game. I solo 90% of the time and only really ask for assistance with instances (because of the loot).
This is my first attempt at a 'lock and if you have a faster way to play and keep downtime to a minimum I'm all ears. ;)

I've played all three specs while leveling my warlock. For soloing, I think you're doing just fine. Let the VW tank while your DoTs tick away. Fear the mob at half health, then turn your VW on the next target. The mob will die from the ticking of the DoTs.
That said, if you want to feel even more a part of things, looking into Drain Tanking. The idea is you spec up your siphon life and just suck the life of the mob while it beats on you. Unless it's something really big (or immune to shadow), this works pretty well.
The third option is to go destro and fear and blast the mobs to bits.
Me? I like letting my demon do the dirty work. I'll often sit down for a snack of some sort of food (after life-tapping my mana back) and send in the felguard on a couple mobs. If I feel like it, I'll help him. Otherwise...that's what having enslaved demons is for, right?

I leveled my Horde lock up to 70 as Afflilction. Some people swear by Demo as THE spec to level. I would always put my VW on the mob, rack it up with DOTS, then go pick flowers. Between Lifetap and Drain Life (and Siphon Life later on), you should never have to stop. I loved drain tanking! Beam's idea about using fear is good too, but I'm personally paranoid about fearing after a few bad experiences with entire camps of humanoids coming over to say hello with their sticks. ;)
VWs are meant to be your tank. Think of them as your prot warrior buddy. Think of your succubus as a rogue...they're meant to DPS not tank. Think of the Felguard as a pissed off MS warrior. Think of your Felhunter as a weird Felhunter thingie...fun to put on healers in BGs.
I'm leveling an Alliance lock because I love them so much! She's Destro for now just to be different.

I leveled Uvula up affliction for a long while, and did pretty well with it, doing it entirely solo (I rarely did instances, I never viewed her as a character I was "serious" about until she got to higher levels and I got really into the whole 'lock thing). But at some point I switched to a demonology spec when I could get the Felguard. Partly because I love the way it looks, partly because I wanted to try something new, and partly because I was just messing around. I really liked the felguard for leveling at higher levels, so you might want to try it out when you can and see how you like it!

Beam is a fucking pansy.
Go hardcore affliction, let your voidwalker get aggro, dot the shit out of the mob, and then when he's half health, send the void to the next mob and repeat process. Fear if necessary, but if you're dotting hard enough, you won't need to. Drain as necessary.
When you're high enough level, switch back to your imp for true drain tanking -- keep your imp phase shifted and use Dark Pact to replenish your mana while you destroy your enemies WILLY NILLY. And pay a visit every now and then to your friendly neighborhood battleground to piss off priests with Unstable Affliction. They'll thank you for it, it keeps them on their toes.
Or kills them messily. Y'know, whichever.
Afflocking is easy-mode. You'll wonder why anyone ever plays anything else.
