okay, so i decided to try to play 2 accounts with this recruit a friend business recently. i was running into a problem with Win XP sp2 where my framerate would bottom out when i tried to run wow (or anything subtantial) on the secondary monitor, but as soon as i moved it to the primary, things were fine.

So i installed Vista Home Premium... which fixed that issue, everything runs fine on either monitor. but now my entire system LOCKS UP when i run wow. i get in for maybe a few seconds, then i have to do a hard reset.

After finding no real fix for this, im considering going BACK to XP because i remember somone mentioning a program or something i can use with XP so that i can actually run wow on my secondary monitor (from my understanding the problem is that XP wont accelerate video on the secondary monitor, i dunno ><).

so, if anyone can remind me of the name of that program or driver or whatever it is, that would be awesome!!!

or if anyone actually knows what i can do to make wow not lock up on vista, that would be fine :-P (im assuming it is a hardware compatability issue, since i run wow on my vista notebook)

thanks!

This is actually the first I've heard of someone using two monitors to show two different accounts at once.

I had thought you had to alt tab between the accounts and/or run the second with macros and third party software.

It's usually multiple boxes using a KVM (keyboard, video, monitor) switch. By flipping the switch, you are able to control more than one computer using only one keyboard, mouse and monitor.

Using multiple monitors would give you the ability to see multiple UIs, but I don't think that's strictly necessary.

I've been doing this for months on XP with no issues, and for the last 2-3 weeks on my new Vista box. The RAF bonus is crazy, so right now I've got a 3rd account going. ;-)

On my old XP SP2 machine (dual core, 2.1ghz, 4gb ram, 8800 GT video), I could run the left screen WoW in windowed mode at 1680x1050, but I found the right screen WoW had to be much smaller to keep my frame rates up.

On my Vista Home Premium x64 machine (quad core, 2.5ghz, 8gb ram, 9800 GTX video), I can run both WoWs at 1680x1050 with no slowdowns noticed so far. I haven't tried turning up things like anti-aliasing though.

Chances are, you either need ram or video; perhaps you are working your current video card and/or power supply too hard? An 8800 GT is a fairly inexpensive upgrade these days and even the new 9800 GTX was only $200.

Are you using Keyclone with macros to control the second window? Myself and a few friends are doing this and it is awesome.

i think i probably am just using hardware that is too out-of-date.

the machine i am trying to use has an old single core P4 2.3ghz, 2gigs of RAM, and a radeon 9800 pro. It runs one instance of wow with all settings maxed like BUTTER, but i suppose 2 of them (even on lowest possible settings) is too much for it to handle. i think my main problem is the processor.

im just not ready to build a new box!!!
i mean, i really want to, but im so close to actually paying off my credit card debt!

i really wanted to wait until closer to holiday season to build a new one... maybe in the meanwhile i will just use my desktop AND notebook simultaneously.

I have tried Alt-tabbing between 2 instances of wow on my notebook (which runs this option just fine). But it is such a pain having to alt tab for certain things like enteracting with NPC's.

PS: i do use keyclone and it is DA BOMB. it supposadly works over a network too so i should be able to use it with 2 different systems :)

Yeah, I'd say your issue definitely is hardware. Depending on your upgrade plans, you could get some good bang for your buck with a new video card and ram. A 8800 GT is around $135, and 4GB of ram is $80, so for ~$215 that would be a pretty good boost and could buy you 6 months more on your current system. It would depend on what your motherboard supports though for video, and if your power supply could handle the 8800 GT (I'd guess at least a 450W).

The video in itself would be your top upgrade - the performance difference from a 9800 Pro to a 8800 GT would be incredible.

The cheapest option definitely though is to license another copy of keyclone for $20 and try the network option.

You all know that I 2,3 and even up to 5-box sometimes. Here is what I aspire to be!

36 shamans, controlled by one guy. I've been trying to find a video but nothing yet.
