I thought you all might like this: be.imba.hu
It gives you a really good estimation of your gear, in relation to the end-game instances in BC.
If you are giving Gearing-Up a serious effort (as I am - as well as tons of gold!), it's gratifying to see how your score can change with just the addition of gems in your empty sockets, or the right enchant.
Also, for some classes, there are talent evaluations. This is still being developed, so a lot are missing, but the one for shadow priests is there.
Oh pooh - I can't figure out how to make that a link!

Just type in http://be.imba.hu (you need the http:// part.)
Editorial: Personally, I've stopped working on my gear until Wrath. At this point, it's a lot of work for only minor gains. If you're spending lots of gold but only getting marginal increases in your stats, you might think about keeping the gold...

You're right about that. Up until now, I've pretty much been getting large improvements (like my spellstrike and frozen shadowweave sets). Now, though, I feel like: if it drops, it drops; if it doesn't, I'll just wait.
Still, for anyone who might be wondering if they are geared well enough for this instance or that, I think it's a good pointer.
I realize that most of the 70s in VS are way beyond this point, but there may be some others like me.

Says it can't connect to the armory because it's down, but it isn't.

There have been some Armory issues today, it would seem. Several sites that interface with the Armory have thrown some errors for me.

Or buy something special like CAKE!

Why the hell would you want to waste gold on cake? I have twenty stacks of pie already.

That looks sooooo good. Like, Satan-offering-you-a-unwitting-virgin-in-exchange-for-your-Soul good. Unholy.

I probably shouldn't be following links like that shortly before lunch time. Keyboards don't react well to drool....

That is not a cakepie. That is simply a pie.
And pie is win.
And pie is win.
That is obviously a bastard child of satan. ...that looks to be menstruating. ...yum.

So back to the issue at hand, ahem.
The armory thing worked and it drove the last nail into the coffin that is my spec. I knew I was a little off but this thing bitched louder than Frenial does. (hey frenial, I still need enchants and gems).
No longer am I 0/0/61! I am.. uh.. 0/5/56.
Should I bother with enchants? I'm going elemental when the patch hits and, supposedly, will be able to raid heal as well as I do now.

I wouldn't bother with crazy expensive enchants right now.... but if you plan on playing a bunch between now and November 13th it wouldn't hurt to put some cheap ones on.
There will be plenty of stuff to spend money on when the expansion hits.

Yeah, get some of the cheap enchants and cheap gems if you plan on raiding any between now and Wrath. If all you're going is 5mans, I imagine you can just save your cash.

I'm a-bumpin' this thread for people who are trying to puzzle out their gear. Or have a hankerin' for cakepie

I just had a look at this link again and totally forgot how awesome it is.
I highly recommend taking a look at the recommendations it makes if you're looking to do heroics and 10/25 mans.

Oh, also it uses the gear you logged out in, so if you (like me) have a regular set and a set that's maximized for + to hit for bosses, make sure you log out in the one you want to evaluate.
And not, for instance, in your fishing gear. Not that I have ever done that.
