I still stalk the forums (I am way behind) and I am online randomly. With all these changes in WoW and work being crazy with new employees and new servers I have just been watching TV mostly. It is easier and less stressful. I have missed a lot of the changes with 3.0.2 and all this scourge stuff.
Is there anything you think I should definitely see before it all goes away? Is the new kara boss cool? I killed the headless Horseman a few times. What awesome quests am I missing out on?
We got in 9 half height blade servers to replace all 90+ servers we currently have. Each blade has 2 Quad processors with 32GBs of ram. They have 150GBs of hard drive space on each blade and are connected to a device that shares 17TBs. I forget the name of it. We are virtualizing our environment. It's going to save on a crap load of heat, energy, and space. I will be happy when it is all done.

blades ftw.
Well, the new Kara boss is limited edition only.. probably going away before the expansion so if you want the bat pet, i'd suggest signing up for it. It's quick.
The scourge stuff is more-or-less the same as last year. Right now, you can turn into a zombie. It's not as cool as it sounds. buy a hat.

Actually it was said on the weekend by a blue poster that he would only be around for about 10 days.
My guess is that he will be gone after next Tuesday's maintenance.
As far as the Halloween event goes, there are a about dozen achievements that you can do if you care about that sort of thing. The horseman's mount is just as crazy rare as the Brewfest one so if you've seen the fight and got the rings you want I wouldn't worry too much that you're missing out on anything.
The scourge invasions are happening again as well. (Probably gone next Tuesday too) While they are running you can look at your map and see if you see a purple skull (map addons will interfere with this feature) on any of the zones. If you do, it means you can head to that zone and fight the undead.
The attack will be in one or more of a few pre-set areas in each zone. If you're having trouble finding it, look up for a Ziggurat and see if you can spot which direction it's shooting Purple attacks at.
When you find the attack site there will be a green crystal surrounded by either a) dozens of scourge mobs or b) dozens of players fighting to tag the spawns. The undead will drop scourgestones if you're wearing your Argent Dawn trinket and will drop necrotic rune. The runes are BoP and can be used to purchase items from a new quartermaster at light hope's chapel if you've done a quest that is also started at Light's Hope. (more about the quartermaster in a sec)
With every scourge killed the crystal in the center will be damaged. When the crystal is destroyed (and sometimes earlier if not many people are helping fight the attack), 4 channellers will appear around the crystal. Anyone can speak to these npcs and offer them 8 necrotic runes. When this is done, a very difficult level 70 elite will spawn. If you have a group at the attack and you are otherwise alone, only speak to one channeller at a time. Two Shades will overwhelm a small group pretty easily. If you are alone at the attack don't bother summoning, its a waste of runes. (A tanking character may be able to solo the Shade but I wouldn't count on it) If there are many people around there will no doubt be a race to tag the shades. Everyone will be AoEing around the channellers and racing to hand in their runes. It is unclear if the shades are tagged by attacks or by who summoned them so if you want to gamble on it, go nuts. The Shades each drop 30 necrotic rune and possibly a random variety of the Undead Slaying set.
Rewards:
Cloth set: Blessed Regalia of Undead Cleansing
Leather set: Undead Slayer's Blessed Armor
Mail set: Blessed Garb of the Undead Slayer
Plate: Blessed Battlegear of Undead Slaying
Chest pieces are drops off of the shades.
Leg pieces are drops off of rare spawns within the attacks (watch out for these and tag them quick)
Gloves and shoulders can be purchased from the quartermaster for 15 necrotic runes
The quartermaster also has a number of other limited edition items more info here
Including a trinket that summons an argent knight to fight for you (who bubble hearths away when finished) an argent dawn standard that has its own consecrate, and finally, the Argent Dawn tabbard (which may never be available again and gives a feat of strength achievement)
The zombie plague has been cured and I would imagine that something else will happen shortly to advance the story and introduce Arthus.... They have to give us some reason to want to go all the way to Northrend right?
Hmmm... didn't know I was going to end up typing that much.

Janetreno will want the axe. Just saying. It's a short and sweet fight - only takes 40 minutes.
