Not cool enough for a Mac?

Today only, get a free copy of CrossOver Games for Linux: http://down.codeweavers.com/

That's right, run WoW on Linux! It runs well and is fully supported. There's a really good chance that this will make my Windows box disappear.

Ah, I'm glad they got their site back into a semi-working state! I tried downloading earlier today & everything was hosed.

All this time Wow has not been running on Linix?

I would have figured the Nerd Army would have united and fixed this years ago.

Well, there was at least one way to do it in the past that got flagged as cheater software.

There have been a few ways to do it, it was just non-trivial. There's even a wowwiki entry for it.

I just figured that some might be interested in a far easier way to do it.

And thanks m0nkeygrl. :)

Codeweavers has been around for quite a while. I've run WoW on linux off an on, the performance boost is great.

The only thing that kills the whole experience is the severe lack of vent support for linux. There is a native teamspeak client, but TS blows.

Don't know what it is but every time I hear people talking about Linux and making changes to get different things to work it reminds me of the good old DOS days and all the config changes that had to be made and times to get various things to run, expecial in the dying days as programs really pushed the memory envolope on the memory constraints.

I prefer running a linux desktop because it provides me with the environment to to the things I want to do. The fact I can do the other stuff I want to do (gaming) is even sweeter.

Most of the popular games don't have true linux support so you have to trick it and it can be a pain in the ass. WoW isn't that difficult of a thing to set up under linux and I've never really had a problem with it. It's mostly the vent support that is the Debbie Downer.

At any given time, I have at least 3 computers running full bore at my desk and sure, I could have a windows client running vent but I prefer my current main WoW machine be the one also controlling vent.

The guy that wrote ventrilo is a cock and won't budge on any open source options, i'm not really sure why. There has never been a charge for the client and the server license policies he has is less forgiving than the Third Reich so I really don't know how that stick got up his ass.

Does Vent not run in Wine? Google found some folks that had it working. That would be a show-stopper.

As for Linux, I just prefer it. And generally, things work just fine (this laptop I'm posting this from, for instance).

Vent does run, but it's very unstable and you have to do some hacking to get push to talk working.
