Let me preface this story be explaining that I have been a Correctional Officer for almost 15 years. In that time, my sense of humor is a little more jaded than most.
So, I work in a jail (See above). Part of the processing is property inventory. Then you get dressed out and sent to an Intake unit. I was working in an inmate unit, and saw that an inmate was still wearing rings. We sometime allow rings if the only way to remove is to cut it off. The County had to pay for $5,000.00 ring that someone cut off, and thus forged this policy. Anyway, I asked him about his rings. He said it did not come off and showed the ring on his right hand. I asked about his wedding ring. He then became agitated, pulled away and said we would have mug him to get it. He then promptly smashed his hand against the wall and squished it so it could not come off. As my fellow officers came in to take the inmate to the happy place, called the "hole" officially known as Administrative Segregation, he makes the comment to me,"You are not my keeper!" My response to him that made the whole unit laugh at him was, "Actually, you are in jail, and I am your keeper."
The whole thing is, the inmates charges: Attempted Murder, Torture, Kidnapping, Assault with a Caustic Chemical, False Imprisonment by Violence, and the kicker Corporal Injury to Spouse. Yes, that wedding ring was so damned important to him because he "loved" his wife sooooo much.
In his defense, I have not met his wife.

Sadly not surpising.
I am sure a lot of them feel "hard done" by.
That was like the group that started a riot because they could not continue to watch TV when it went on too late cuz the game went into OT.
