Ok, so I'm trying to get this, and I know a few others are.
I also know a few of you have. So here's my question...

How did you track what you'd already done?

I have 625 Kalimdor quests and I can't figure out for the life of me what I'm missing. I know there are some dungeon quests, and I'm working on that, but as they didn't split Kalimdor and EK into zones I'm finding it very difficult to figure out where to go next...

Does anyone have a mod that actually helps with this or some other way?

I just turned on low level quest tracking and then worked my way from zone to zone hitting all the quest hubs. There are often one or two quests along the side at remote givers that you CAN get, but don't need to.

After that, I went back and looked for the more obscure quests. (WoWhead had some nice tips for ones you typically miss.) Depending on your memory for quests, you might want to try having WoWhead list all the quests in a zone then go through them and see which you remember doing.

There's not a lot of quest areas for the Alliance in Kalimdor, so it's pretty easy there: get everything in the Dranei and Nelf starting and leveling zones, then hit Dustwallow Marsh, Tanaris, Winterspring and Feralas. After that, things get more sparse....

I know that Carbonite (the paid-for version) lists all the quests in an area that you haven't done. Now if you did them before you install Carbonite, it will think you haven't yet, but it will still give you the list by area.

It's not very expensive - about $14 a year - and it has some neat features.

Sorry Hom the only add on's I have heard of track stuff you have already done, but only if you did it while you had the add on installed.

Putting on the low level quest giver and taking the grand tour + the quests guides people have made for the achievement are the only things I can think of.

Saddly I started my Loremaster quest before installing something like Carbonite...

But, just an FYI, have you seen this:

Apparently Carbonite may go away, unless it is reworked to be completely free... I wonder if that means they will refund those who have already paid...

This is what I have been doing. I went to www.wowhead.com and from the database selected zones, sorted it first by level and then by territory. For the Eastern Kingdoms, I did all the newb starting zones and just kept following the quest lines. For Kalimador, I started in Ammenvale on Azuremyst Isle.

To make sure I didn't miss a quest hub in an area, after I completed that area, I would use the map of the area from wowhead and from the drop-down menu selected alliance quest givers. Also, on the wow forums under achievements/loremaster, there is a thread that contains many posts on easily missed quests and hard to find quest lines. I found some great information, under the comment tab, here as well www.wowhead.com/?achievement=1678.

I’m not there yet….just finishing Kalimador and have Icecrown to finish in Northrend.

Good luck!

I was staring at WoWhead today going, GOD I wish they had a feature to show me all the questgivers on the map... that would make life so much easier...

I finally found it, after your post here. Thank you!

I just saw Jeffrey Kaplan speak at the GDC...

"Quest Helper and Carbonite are brilliant addons"

I don't think their intention is to kill the addons you have to pay for.... they just don't want people to feel they are not getting the full experience unless they shell out more money to a third party.

I think the bigger issue is someone making money off of Blizz/IP Law. While asking for donations is fine (and legal). These add-ons would not exist if not for Blizz, so charging people for the product gets into some tricky gray areas of Intellectual Property law...the EULA change took out the gray areas. Maybe Rastus or Stranger can tell me if I'm totally off base. My limited knowledge of IP law focuses on scientific research, so it is even more limited.

Edited to add: Last night I was 78/80 in Hellfire. I fly into Honor Hold and see two yellow exclamation points. Perfect. I do the capture the towers quest because I hadn't done it...then I do Pride of the Fel Horde. I'm still 78/80 and PISSED. I know the towers one is a PvP Daily...but I thought it at least counted the first time you did it.

I've probably said it before but it bears repeating...
Free addons that I like to use: lightheaded and tomtom
Lightheaded has links to wowhead and gives you clickable coordinates, it opens up in a window beside the quest log.
Tomtom is your coordinates mod.

Very useful and light on the memory. I've heard carbonite can be a memory hog.

Unfortunately there is some inconsistency here. I did a repeatable quest in DM the other day that did count the first time the other day, but there are quite a few that don't. I wish it were more consistent.

Its based on Blizzard giving the quest an "ID." If the repeatable version and the first time version have the same ID, then it doesn't count. The only way I've been able to find that out is through reading WoWhead and finding the folks who say: "It Does/Does not count." But there are even a few that have been changed so that they do count now and didn't before...

I, too, am working on Loremaster, and I have a quest giver add-on I'm using that may help you.

I use QuestHelper, and used to use Cartographer, but switched that out for something more lightweight - Mapster. (Plus, I was sick of all the error messages I was getting with Cartographer.)

With this I use HandyNotes and HandyNotes - Quest Givers. It adds little ! on your maps to show quest givers for a certain area, plus you can hover over the ! to see what quests they give.

You can get these add-ons at curse.com:
HandyNotes: http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/handynotes.aspx
HandoNotes-Quest Givers: http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/handynotes_questgivers.aspx

There is probably something better for this out there, but I'm lazy and it works just fine for me. :)

This sounds like it would be a lot faster than going back and forth from WoW to the WoWhead map, I will try these out.

Thanks!

Bumping this for Raeb, because we were talking about it online today.

I used these and they came in quite handy, I couldn't have done it without them. Now it doesn't really track what you've already done, but it helps to find the quest givers that you didn't know were there...
