Since we are getting more into the 25-man raids, I thought we should review some tips on how to be considerate to others during raids. This applies to 10-mans as well as 25-mans, but they are most important for the larger groups. Yes, we are a casual raiding guild. But that doesn't mean we don't want to progress or make the most of our time in game. Imagine this: if every one of the 25 raid members causes a 2 minute delay, that's almost an hour of wasted time... for everyone. So, without further delay, I present you with:
RAIDING TIPS - HOW NOT TO PISS OFF YOUR FELLOW GUILDIES
Sign up
Sign up on the site as soon as you know if you are available and state which toon(s) you can bring and which you prefer to bring. This will help the raid leader determine if (a) we have enough to make the run happen and (b) we have the right mix of classes to succeed. Make sure you are not already ID'd or you will forever be known as "that guy" who spread his disease to everyone.
Show up
Emergencies happen. We get that. If you are unable to attend a run and it is close to the start time of the run, please send a PM to the raid leader so he knows to find a replacement. If you were decked: please show up at the start of the run - that's why we have a deck - to fill in for those that can't make it at the last minute. If you were not picked for a run and want to be removed from deck, please say so on the thread. And if you forget about a run and simply don't show up, we expect a 180-word essay expressing your sorrow for having screwed up everything for everyone.
Be on time
Don't always expect others to summon your ass right at the start time of the raid. Why not try to be one of the people doing the summoning once in a while? This will make you popular.
Come prepared
Make sure you are repaired. Bring your flasks, potions, food, poisons, arrows, etc. And don't expect floorfish all the time. We have many generous guildies who often bring food for the raid but if you die, and you are the only one that died, you will need to eat some food to rebuff before the next feast is laid.
Listen to instructions
We do tend to have a lot of fun on vent, especially in our Friday night drunken raids. However, everyone should try to pay attention to the RL when they are explaining new fights or strategies. Be nice to the RL... they have a hard job with very small rewards at times.
Wiping
If it looks like a fight is going badly, do not assume it is a wipe. And DO NOT RELEASE until told to do so. If by some miracle the boss does go down, you will not be able to loot. And even if there is a wipe, there are times where someone is DI'd or soul-stoned or uses an ankh and can rez everyone. There are some places where running back would mean the entire raid would have to wipe just to get your ass back to the rest of them. Don't be an ass.
Looting
Looting can take a long time and eats away at our progression time. Know your character before you go into a raid. Know what stats you should be trying to maximize. If you need help, ask someone for help before the raid. Do not wait until we are looting and then wonder if your holy pally should be rolling on an item with hit rating. RatingBuster is a great addon that helps compare your loot to an item that has dropped (but obviously it won't tell you what stats you need). Rolling on inappropriate items will likely earn you the title of loot whore.
Vent etiquette
Remember that every time you speak on vent, there are up to 24 other people that must listen to you and must wait for you to finish. If you have a question, keep it brief. If you have to run afk for a quick minute, just type it in raid chat and have your toon follow someone else. (Unless you have a primary role - healer, tank, etc - in which case you should clear it with the RL first.) If you need a longer afk, send a whisper to the RL and ask if they can fit one in sometime soon. During a boss fight vent chatter should be kept to a minimum - i.e. mainly just for the RL and those in primary roles. If you die during a fight, you do not need to announce it on vent unless you have a primary role. If you feel the need to yap on and on during a raid, use raid chat.
Feedback
Please guildies, don't hurt us! We encourage everyone to please please please invest in a headset. If you can't afford one, please speak to an officer and one will be mailed to you free of charge. I'm not kidding. The easiest way to avoid feedback with vent is to have either a USB headset for voice output only or a direct input headset with USB speakers for game sound only. When vent is output through speakers (laptop or otherwise) it makes it very easy for your mic to pick up the sound and send it back over and over. Sound on computers is usually very finicky so if you want someone to help you troubleshoot ask one of the officers and they'd be happy to try to help.
And most of all... HAVE FUN. Don't get upset if we wipe over and over. Don't take it personally if something goes wrong. We all make mistakes and we are all pretty patient with each other. Just follow the tips above and we'll all live happily ever after.

I'd like all people who are just starting to raid with us to read this over.
