Here is the margarita recipe I was raving about last night.
Props to Jimmy Buffett for the base; I have changed it a bit.
3 oz. Gold Tequila (I use Cuervo because I like the taste)
2 oz. Roses Lime juice
1 oz. Triple Sec (I like Bols)
.5 oz. Orange Curacao (again Bols)
3 lime wedges
The recipe works well both on the rocks and frozen.
Add all ingredients to recepticle, squeeze 2 of the lime wedges into said recepticle.
Use one of the squeezed wedges to rim a glass, dip glass in kosher salt.
Process margarita however you like it best.
Squeeze last lime wedge into glass.
Pour and enjoy.
Repeat until you talk like a pirate.

I have this awful tendency, when I make margaritas (which is rarely), to use the bottled mix. Sadly, I am now used to the taste. But now I am inspired to make them right!
Any drink mix is the debil; except perhaps Pat O'Briens Hurricane mix.
The front end expense may be a bit steep...but get a couple of these in you and I guarantee you will not regret it.

That's not a guarantee I would be willing to put on any kind of alcohol.

I would so try this, but tequila does not sit well in my tummy. That's a shame because this sounds so good. I do, however, happen to have some Pat O'Brien's Hurricane Mix (of indeterminate age) at home that I need to bust out for Friday. Thanks for the reminder!

Perhaps my statement needs qualifying, especially with some of my meanderings as of late...
What I was implying was that imbibing that magical concoction is worth every penny that you invested in it.
Now what happens the next day...or three weeks after is an entire different story that is not fit for prime-time.

I am willing to make the sacrifice to ensure a level drunken playing field for all.

For those that prefer, I think you can probably substitute vodka for the tequila.

Hmmm...like a really funky kamikaze, SPOT ON SAPPH!

Here is my other favourite as many spring breaks spent in Islamorada I probably drank five gallons of the stuff. This drink comes from Holiday Isle...Tiki Johns Rum Runner...I have altered it a bit...So DK Cakes Rum Runner
1.5 oz white rum
1.5 oz 151 proof rum
2 oz. banana liqueur
2 oz. blackberry brandy
3 oz. Roses Lime Juice
1 oz. grenandine
The above makes a base that you add ice too until you get a taste that you like
This makes a pretty strong frozen drink.

Bren,
Perhaps the fates will have it in the future that you and I could raise glasses together.
I am quite sure the outcome would shake the pillars of Heaven.

That Rum Runner sounds amazing!

After some purely scientific trials today; I have altered the initial recipe again...add three cups of ice to this for a pretty goddamn good frozen margarita

OK, I am embarassed to admit that, until today, I had not gotten around to trying this. However, snowed in during what may be the heaviest snowstorm ever to hit DC, I did try it today. Pils, it rocks! (I had the foresight to stock up on ingredients yesterday.) I think my earlier plan of doing some snow shoveling this evening has fallen by the wayside...

Reviving this as a result of Rastus/Pils margarita discussion in the other thread...
You know, I've really turned off from Rose's lime juice. I prefer using actual limes whenever possible. I just bought a nice reposado which I think can make fine, fine margaritas.
My basic margarita recipe:
2 parts booze (In this case a premium reposado)
1 part other booze (triple sec most often, I prefer cointreau or grand marnier- Pils' suggestion of Curcao is interesting but I haven't tested it)
1 part fresh squeezed lime juice
On the rocks. Can't drink frozen drinks unless I'm on a beach or I'm already so drunk that I've embarrassed myself beyond caring.
