I still really liked this woman's analogy and what she had to say about the experience of raid management and decorum.

Sounds to me like she's trying too hard with the analogy thing.

I thought it was pretty accurate, if not to this guild specifically, especially in terms of relating WoW players to children =P

I think I've done my fair share of carefully writing open letters to boost guild moral to make some observations...
I don't think she took this far enough. The length of it says to me that she really hoped it would draw attention to what she felt were the guild's shortcomings. Now, because I've written similar posts in the past, I can see what her intention was, but I don't think she personalized it enough. What I read is "hey guys check out this interesting comparison I've made with my life experiences and the game we love" when she wanted to say "hey guys I see that we have problems and I think I can help us fix it by relating it to my life outside the game."
It's a subtle difference yes, but it's the kind of difference that will reach the people she's targetting. She isn't trying to talk to the people that also recognize there is a problem, she's trying to appeal to the people that just show up and don't care about the time that their fellow guildmates have invested in trying to do things well.
I'd be interested in reading a follow up on whether she got the message accross.

My only point is that, lacking a pie reference, she would have managed to alienate half of our guild.
I don't think some of you really get what it's like to be put into a position where you need to get a message out to your guild but MUST do it in the most diplomatic--and probably vague--terms possible.
She put it all out there using an analogy because she didn't want to specifically target problems, and therefore individuals, by saying "Some of ya'll are greedy fucks." And maybe that worked for her (aka, Raiding went smoother) or maybe only a few people read it who bothered to care, I don't know. But at least she cared enough to try.
If you read all the posts we've posted about raid problems, you will see how lightly we tread on certain issues that drive us crazy. We edit and edit and change and discuss these posts before they go up so they will get the message across, but still not offend/upset people.
I'm not even saying these posts WORK. I'm just saying we do them because they must be done and they're difficult to present in a way where people don't get huffy.
P.S. To Raiders: Just because you CAN use the lewt doesn't mean you must own every single piece you can equip into your little pixelated slot.
Too vague?

Yeah...and don't be avaricious; that breeds bad karma, man.
