goallineblitz.com is a football (American style) stat based game. It's touted as an MMORPG but it's pretty rudimentary as far as the action goes. You can find some videos on youtube but the sim itself is humdrum so you won't see much. The meat of the game is in the numbers. Oh, and it's FREE.

Regarding the free, you get 400 points that you can use to make up to 4 players. Your account name is the agent for any players you create. You build them, then train them. You sign a contract with a CPU team or a human team. When you play, you earn money used to buy equipment upgrades and to pay for training. Using the points, you can also become an owner and run a stadium and team, but this may take more than the free allotment of points. It's technically still possible to own a team for free but there is a waiting list for buying teams.
