Anyone trying this out? Release is 1-11-11. My biggest worry is the fact Sony is involved, but I know the developers don't necessarily have anything to do with the publisher. However, I plan to try it. Anyone playing should try to stay on the same server and guild up, eh?

I'll update later if and when I am actually going to be in.

I was going to try the PS3 beta (I have PS Plus so I have access to it) but the download was taking something on the order of 12 hours so I just decided not to. I am curious how it plays though and how it reviews.

New Frontier is the name of the server I'm using. So far, so good. I guess I'll drop a line later with more info. I know WoW has the new expansion but I'm so ready for something different.

Twist is playing this game. I can't remember the server he's on at the moment. He's having a nap, when he wakes up I'll ask him. He seems to like it.

Fair enough.

I am finally able to do more with my new machine, so I got the free version of FRAPS. I'm uploading some small vids to youtube that I'll link when they finally get done uploading. I concentrated on the speed movement feature. It's pretty neat.

'm so ready for something different.

I totally get that. That will probably be my sentiment when SWTOR arrives.

So I downloaded the free FRAPS which limits me to 30 second videos. My first upload to youtube ever is pretty lame but it lets you see the super run movement. It takes my DSL about 3 hours to upload a 30 second video so I will get more up soon and will link them.

If you want to see a specific kind of game play I'd be glad to take a video and upload it if I am able to do so.

Pick "original" for the resolution to see what the game really looks like.

The game mechanics are different and definitely take some getting used to. The game is a hybrid between console and PC style RPG and I think it's a nice change. The game was launched for both PS3 and PC but the servers are separate so you will only play with same platform players.

You have skills and powers. Your power set is chosen at character creation as well as your skill set.

The two skill sets are weapon and movement mode. For weapon, you can pick things like bow, dual pistols, two handed melee or the handblaster to name a few. There are only three movement types at launch; flying, speed run and acrobatic. The first two are probably self evident. The acrobatic gives you a fast loping run and allows you to climb vertically and super leap. In fact, you can leap into the air, leap again to gain more height and shoot a zip line in some cases to attach yourself to the next building. Wjen you put skill points into weapon you get new attacks. Movement is locked until level 9 but includes special attacks like a whirlwing flying attack where you fly around your opponent in a whirlwind but also includes a speed increaser skill.

The powers are things like fire, ice, mental, nature etc. Regardless of what you pick you get to choose from two separate trees. For example, mental allows you to pick from the illusion tree or the telekinesis tree. There is a tree for each and you decide what powers you wish to choose. Also, there is an iconic powers tree that you get to pick from that gives specific powers anyone can take but only starting at level 10.

The way the powers are activated is by a power tray. This power tray corresponds to the number row on the keyboard. Your weapon attacks are activated by the two mouse buttons. As you gain different attacks, there are button combos that set off the different attacks. So maybe you tap the right mouse key twice then hold the left mouse button to use an AOE attack. Or perhaps triple tap the left button to make a leap attack that interrupts.

Because of this, the main ajustment is to stop pressing buttons for camera control or target selection. Target selection is accomplished by aiming your reticule or using the tab key to lock.

I'll try to get some combo vids up. I don't have the money to join FRAPS for longer vids yet. I probably won't be buying it any time soon because I really don't have that much use for it. If uploading was faster I could see doing it more often for everthing I love.

Yeah, I'd love to see some combat.

That running video looks a LOT like Crackdown on 360 or Infamous on PS3.

Three videos of the hand blaster weapon. First video is just the attacks I have so far being used on no one. The next two videos are taken of some combat with lower level MOBs. As always, use "original" for the resolution to see it like it really is.

I usually have more fun with the character creation of these types of games when I do actually playing it. Right now $50(on steam) is too much for me to spend on a game. Hell its too much for me to spend on stuff I actually need right now!

If the price drops or I get a bit of overtime I will look into it.

I agree, $50 is too much for anything really. Too many good games available for much less.

Twist has already quit this game. He said he found it too buggy and was frustrated by the chat system (or lack thereof).

Yeah I hate the chat system. The bugs appear to be part of launch so that's possibly an issue that will go away soon but still can kill it for some people (including myself).

Tell Twist that he and I fell for another bungled launch of a Sony product. I guess I'm not surprised at all.

I think the real problem with this game is that it was made for PC and consol. It's a hard fact of life for consol gamers: their machines are not made for MMOs.

If this game doesn't succeed then it's gonna be a looong time before anyone tries to make a consol MMO.
