I think I found out why you were hearing things:

Not disagreeing with anything anybody posted here, but DBM had something added to it that made me question my sanity.
They added a feature (and automatically activated it) that would play sound files from the C'Thun fight when you looted archaeology keystones. If you didn't know this, you'll randomly start hearing . . . voices, while off in the wilderness and digging around.
"You will die."
"You have betrayed your friends."
Etc. Seriously thought I was losing it when it first started happening.
