Sorry it took so long, but we've finally nailed down a resonable hotel for VS Fest: San Francisco- in Oakland!
I personally scouted this place last night after reading many good reviews. You can't beat the location and its very reasonably priced for the area.
I worked out a deal with the Hotel Manager, Raj. You have the option of a 'King Suite' that has a seperate living room area for $109/night, a standard Queen room for $79/night or a standard room with two double-beds for $89/night. Each 'King suite' has a door that can open into an adjoining Queen room. Fox, Sapph and I are going to book a King/double combo and open it up as a meeting/gathering place.
This place is lightly staffed, but with first-rate people. There is an adequately stocked bar/lounge in the lobby that is cozy, and the in-house restaurant is basic and only open weekdays. Luckily there are numerous restaurants and bars all on the same block. You wont get all the amenities of major-brand luxury hotel here, so if that is a concern, The Oakland Marriot City Center and Courtyard Marriot Downtown Oakland are almost literally next door. If you choose to go that route though, you are on your own as we won't get group rates there.
Finally, just in case, my apartment is about 10 blocks north of the hotel. If we have any VSers that are strapped for cash and really want to make the trip, send me a PM and I am more than happy to host you in my home free of charge.
So..... call Raj and reserve your room today! Be sure to specify the type of room you want (King/Queen/Double) and that you are with "VS"
The Washington Inn 495 10th St.
Oakland, CA
510.452.1776
The rooms are booked for Thursday, August 4th through Monday, August 8th. I know some of you are planning on getting here Wednesday night... it shouldn't be a problem to book that extra night with Raj... but if you just want to crash at my apartment for the extra night that is also cool (but please let me know first ;) .
Booked:
Brendar
Famousjenny
Sapphyre
Foxfyr

Perseous

And yes, there is free wireless throughout the hotel. Given that its a small, cheap hotel, that probably means it'll be bandwidth contstrained if a bunch of wow nerds are all trying to use it at the same time.

Also, thanks to India's victory in the Cricket World Cup, I managed to talk Raj down a bit on the rates. Prices are edited in the original post.

Perseous and I have booked flights and hotel rooms. I will be in a King Suite and he will be in a Queen room.
Unfortunately, we will only be able to take off that Thursday and Friday, so we will be coming back on the 7th, but we're both looking forward to hooking up with everyone!

Do you know roughly what time your flight arrives on Thursday? Trying to keep track so we can arrange the first official activity based on when everyone gets there. Flying into SFO, I gather? And what time do you leave on Sunday?

We arrive at 1:10pm local time on Delta 1680 non stop from Atlanta. Our plane departs Sunday at 11:55am.
Does this mean I am going to find you with a big question mark over your head?
:)

Sadly, I don't think I can! A bunch of us are doing a tour of wine country on Thursday during the day. But if others are arriving at the same time as you maybe you can share a taxi to the hotel. And we'll all hook up at some point in the evening for dinner and/or drinks.

The Man and i are trying to finalize our travel plans soon. we will most likely be staying at one of the Marriots (free nights) and may or may not have a car (free rental time). we'll also be arriving a few days earlier to visit family just south of there, so we may be available to pick people up at the airport, depending on times/locations. i'll confirm as soon as we nail more details down.
three months in another country sure racks up the free rewards ;)

Arriving at SFO at 03:30 p.m. local on the 4th. Continental 6529. Still need a hotel reservation and would like to split with someone to make it as cheap as possible.

we're booked! we're flying into San Jose on the 2nd (to visit family), and will be up in the Oakland area the night of the 3rd. we'll be staying through Monday afternoon, when our flight takes off at 4:05pm from San Jose. we will have a rental car since we'll need to drive on up, so it is possible we can pick people up from the airport, depending on times.
we're also staying at the Mariott down the street, we have free points/nights, so it's not costing us anything to stay there.

Yay! Are you two interested in wine country on the Thursday? That event was optional.

Doesn't matter which thread you post on. I'm updating the main thread with attendees.
Can you guys let me know who all is interested in wine country?
And if anyone else is still thinking of coming on this trip, please let us know so we can start to make some sense of the schedule.

i guess it kind of depends where (what places) and how we're getting there (and how much it's costing!). so put The Man and I down as maybe's for wine country

I know I haven't been on in a really long time, but it would be cool to meet all those who are going, so count me in.
Since I live in Southern California, I'll be driving up and have been talking to Syl a bit about it, so I can be his missing roomie, just have to decide which room to go with.
Also, barring any traffic on the way up, I most likely will pick up Syl from the airport, so if anyone else is flying into SFO around 3:30ish (before or after), I'd have 3 seats left in the car if anyone would like to save a cab fare to the hotel.
