Anyone have an idea how to dispose of a giant beehive way the hell up in an oak tree crevice?

I am afraid of them attacking my dog; which would then force me to go genocidal on bees and thus wreck everything.

Because without bees we would all be dead, as your common ecomentalist (topgear term) would have us believe.

I am torn between protecting my dog, or destroying the world.

Maybe you could find a local beekeeper to come and take them safely away? If they're honeybees it would suck to just exterminate them.

Bottle rockets. Or military signal flares if you have a shady dealer in your area.

Couple summers ago I went digging through the garage and I heard a faint buzzing. I pulled up a 2x4, and the buzzing went up about 100db. I was on the other side of the street before my feet touched the ground. Turned out I had a huge beehive in a corner of my garage. The big fat non-aggressive mega-pollinator bees, good for the garden. I just stayed out of their way for a few months until the weather cooled off, then I went in and took out the hive. The neighbors thought it was pretty cool. I was going to keep the hive, but then I remembered what happened in The Shining.

I am just gonna eyeball them for awhile. As my luck usually goes, these bees are probably "Madagascar Assassin" bees (yes, I made that name up); which are the bees that the African Killer bees hire to handle jobs that are too tough for them.

Taking down one hive shouldn't hurt anything. Otherwise, wait until winter to move it or look for an expert to do it now.

Being American, I was thinking of shooting the tree until the Bees give up.

Here are the little buggers.

I realize that this image might excite some of you; but anyone who would hit something with bees flying out of it...man man man.

Just don't be rude about it. Strip off all of your clothes, grab a ladder, and go up to the opening of the hive. Politely ask for the Queen, then engage her in a calm discussion and try to find a mutually agreeable solution. If she can't be rational and decides to go back inside, smash her before she gets through the entrance, then go all Honey Badger on her hive's ass. Where can I obtain or buy a honey badger?

In South Africa honey badgers are a specially protected "red data" species and a permit is required to capture or keep one in captivity. They are considered "vulnerable" in the South African Red Data list and are listed on appendix III of the CITES agreement (www.cites.org.za/mammals.html) and cannot be bought as pets. If you are wanting to reintroduce honey badgers into a protected area, it would be best to contact the IUCN's Reintroduction Specialist Group.

The Honey Badger does NOT give a fuck about your appendix III of the CITES agreement.
