I've seen a lot of people complaining about the lack of an Android mobile app so I was curious what people in our guild use.

I should point out that my contract's up in a month, and I'm definitely going the Droid or iPhone route after that.

I have this stupid fucking iPhone, but I'm leaning in the direction of a Droid. Or, I'm going to switch service providers and get a Nokia shipped over. Just waiting till I lose this one or smash it in a fit of rage.

I'm using a Palm Pre. I like it, but the hardware's getting old and HP isn't moving fast enough to get new stuff going... and the app support is weak. So I'll be switching to an Android phone this summer... As soon as the phone I want is available and I can figure out what I want to do with my contract...
(So I therefore answered based on what I'm getting, not what I have.)

I think you are the first person who actually HAS an iPhone I've ever heard complain about it like that.

Oh, I've heard quite a few others...
You know the most complaints I hear about iPhones come from A) users who can't get good AT&T Service, or B) IT Security and Network professionals...
They are a real bear on distributed networks due to some flawed programming logic. I mean, Apple swears the code is written the way they want it to be written, but its a pain in the arse for a University network to handle...

Honestly, the only reason I've kept it is for the iPod interface. I almost switched when I destroyed my last iPhone (it ended up INSIDE Rickman's bedroom wall, which I had to patch), but I needed a phone ASAP, didn't want to have to familiarize myself with something new, and I'm on a plan with three other devices, so my bill is pretty low. In general, Droids offer better hardware, and the OS is far superior. Some of the newer Nokias are really REALLY sexy, but you'll either have to order from one of their European sites or change providers. I'm on my phone a lot and I'd prefer something faster than this iPhone.

I have a Samsung Focus Windows phone. Work is reimbursing me about $65 a month to be able to call me on it night or day. I chose it basically because it has MS Office on it and will sync with my office computer. I can be out on the grounds and receive a Word or Excel file, update it and send it right back. I like it so far, not as many apps but more than I'll ever use. Haven't used the XBox Live feature yet.

I'm actually glad I started this thread. It's interesting to hear the reasons for people's preferences.
I myself was pretty frustrated with the speed of my iPhone 3G but I couldn't be happier with my iPhone 4 now. Since music is so important to me, having iTunes support in itself is pretty much enough.... But add in all the games on the app store an it's a no brainer for which one is right for me.

7.2 Mbit/sec is cool, but I'd like the option for faster transfers if my network allows it.
Story about phone in wall is not that cool. Veinkman and I are hanging out, Rickman is at work, I'm wasted and walk into his room during my phone conversation, and BLAM! Rage leads me to throw my phone through the wall.

I'm an iPhone user. I haven't really had many of the problems that so many other iPhone users have had - with the exception of the three months I lived in LA a few years ago. The place I lived on Santa Monica Blvd had the worst reception ever. But anywhere else in LA was fine.
But I digress a little.
In the almost four years that I've used iPhone I've had almost no dropped calls, reception has always been fairly high, etc.
I would never switch to an Android phone. I've used them and I very much dislike the UI. It doesn't feel polished. It feels kind of clunky.
If I could never use an iPhone again, I'd seriously consider a Windows Phone 7. One of my co-workers uses one and swears by it. The UI on that phone is very slick and I like the Xbox live integration.
But, I've been very happy with my iPhone.

It was a woman (of course) and I do not remember the topic. Something to make me mad enough to throw it even though I bought it at launch and had to pay full price. Rickman's ceiling in that room had recently caved in and the walls had just been repainted. I drove to the hotel where he works all shitfaced with my phone's guts in a bag, then got him to give me a room and slept off some rage.

I've used Blackberry for awhile now. I have a really good plan that isn't offered anymore, but its only for BB phones. I don't really need or use my phone all that much for internet or anything else, so I don't care if there's a stupid app for that. I have at least another year on my plan before I get better discounted phone, but it all depends on the price of a plan before I decide what to get. Apple is low on the list.
I have a BlackBerry for 2 reasons.
1) Work uses BlackBerry and they pay for my plan.
2) My brother works for RIM and gets me any BlackBerry I want for free.
I have liked all my BlackBerries though. Have the Torch now and quite like it.

I'm @ the tail end of my 2 yr commitment with Deutsche Telekom (aka T-Mobile) and I can't wait to be rid of them and this piece of shit Blackberry Curve. Owning a Blackberry is like owning a cassette player in your car...it's just outdated technology. Why I ever thought I could maneuver through and view the Internet on an inch by inch and half screen is beyond me. I've been researching carriers and phones and will be going with Verizon as the carrier and I'm waiting on the new Motorola Droid Bionic for my 'droid phone. A dual core processor phone...get the fuck outta here! I'm all over it.

You lived close to IN-N-OUT Burger, that's cool.

Love my Torch. Tried the iPhone and hated the keyboard. Actually hated every onscreen keyboard I have tried. Never got the right words out of it. Always got jibberish from my fat fingers :)
I have even dropped my Torch a few times with it slid open and it doesn't appear to have damaged anything.
A friend of mine put her older Blackberry Curve though a closet door, picked it up and kept using it. This particular Curve has hit the wall numerous times actually and only recently developed a small crack in the screen. It has also had a few encounters with liquids including some grape juice while it was in use. It continues to work properly... mostly. :)
I also had a Motorola Charm (Android) for a total of a week. I liked the apps and features, but the phone was crap. If I wanted a phone for the toys, I would probably look at another Android. I use my phone mainly for work and texting, so the Blackberry is perfect.

I cannot understand this overwhelming need to throw technology...just let Fox hold it when there is ice on the sidewalk and go from there.

i don't have fat fingers and i can't type on those iphones or androids. trying to put in a website for a co-worker took entirely too long. i'm using a BB Bold right now, and its ok. but even on these keys, i'm constantly hitting adjacent keys so i get more frustrated having to delete and correct. sigh.

My brother uses an Android and says that the dictionary has really improved. This means that the phone guesses the word you meant to type by the rough area your finger mashed on the screen. Apparently it is smart enough to figure it out most of the time too, right down to grammar. Not sure though since I have never seen it.... I am in Canada, he is in Germany :)
I don't have a cell phone. I hate the dam things. They are a plague on civilization. No, I'm not talking about all the things you can do on them. I'm talking about the fact that people are too stupid to use them, wrecking their car, ignoring someone in the same room, playing with them at work while I do their share of what we are there for, texting incessantly about nothing over the course of an entire day or evening when a simple phone call would have taken care of nothing in less than 5 minutes, or thinking I'm supposed to pony-up a C-bill (or more) a month just so they can text me things I don't care to receive. That's just a smidgen of the crap that cell phones have brought on humanity.

I don't know what your reading interests are, Mal. But I'm guessing you might like the book I'm reading right now. Cell by Stephen King.
