Report in.
I know that there are a few if you guys and that you're getting hit today too.
Also, Amonsul, say something.

I never EVER go to our storm shelter. This morning, I made an exception.

They just tried to herd everyone in my office into the interior rooms for shelter. People mostly laughed and made fun of our heavy-breathing, overhead-PA-system announcement guy. (Seriously, did he just run straight here from the National Weather Service? Gulp some air before you get on the speaker.)

Storm came through Tuscaloosa about 5:00 this morning. Straight line winds had some more trees down around town including one or two up the street from me laid across power lines. Still no power at home. I'm at work now and they have decided to close the college at 2:30 today. County and city schools have been closed all day. Looking at the radar, another round is brewing and gaining strength back in lower MS. Should be here in a couple of hours.
Looks like Tupelo MS as about to be hit hard.

We have power in Northport. I know that your side of town always gets the worst.
Just looking out for my Tuscaloosa people.

I live in Northport too. :) Work at Shelton State.
City of Cullman has been hit right through town, court house was damaged.
Tornado down hitting Reform right now.
Another crossing the state line that may impact Tuscaloosa county.
Its nasty all over and liable to last for several more hours.
6 confirmed fatalities in Alabama so far:
"Fatalities are confirmed in these counties: One in Cullman, one in DeKalb, one in Jackson, one in Jefferson and two in St. Clair."
CULLMAN, Alabama -- CNN reports that emergency management officials believe that a tornado has struck Cullman Regional Medical Center in northern Alabama.
A switchboard operator at the hospital told CNN that officials declared a disaster at the facility. Tweeters are also reporting direct hit on the Cullman hospital.
Twins running through Oakman/Jasper area right now.(4:45) Reports of insulation and debris falling from the sky ahead of them...freaking scary.
Bad radar signature coming through Northport/Tuscaloosa area now(4:50) Sirens howling.

We were clear, but Tuscaloosa is absolutely destroyed. I've been getting photos from diff sources. It's really really really bad.
It came down in Rickman and Veinkman's backyard. Their neighborhood is evidently destroyed but they say that their house is okay.
If it's any reference, I got a photo from 82 and 15th and Big Lots, Milo's, Full Moon, Mattress King are nothing but rubble. It's nuts.

Made it from Northport down to Shelton in South Tuscaloosa. No power from Skyland to as far south as I can see. At the school now with no power but laptop battery and network because gens are running down here. On I-359 about 27th street(rosedale) its as bad as I have ever seen on TV or in pictures. I cant imagine what it looks like the 2-3 miles in between there and University mall. Back a mile before 359 is our other campus on 32nd street and I was not able to go that way. I have a very bad feeling it has sustained heavy damage. It's gonna be a red dawn for Tuscaloosa tomorrow.

128 dead in Alabama, 16 in Tuscaloosa.

Update: Spoke with an EMS guy at a store this morning. Just in the Alberta/Holt area of town, he said after about 15 he just stopped counting the bodies. I think its gonna be much worse that already reported.
I'm at work now, Alabama Power is using the college as a staging area so I have trucks, power poles, transformers and huge rolls of wire in the parking lot.
All schools in the county will be closed today and tomorrow as is Shelton State.

Sorry, I just noticed this post. I don't seem to have their phone numbers in my phone. I will try to contact them another way and let you know. The tornado path should have tracked a little north of the apartment complex where they live. But yes the CVS took a direct hit.
Update: I just spoke with Cory's Mom. He was not working yesterday. He, Ryan and Johnny were at the apartment and they are all ok. He actually went to his parents house last night as he gave up his bedroom to some fellow employees that had lost their homes.

Wow... thank you guys for the updates. I'm glad you're all ok.
We have crazy winds here today, gusting up to 81km/h (50miles). People driving along the lake are apparently getting hit by waves from Lake Ontario. I'm in my office at 47 floors up and the whole building is creaking.

We are ok where we are for now. I believe the water is supposed to peak on Sunday some time. My house should be ok because my yard has an embankment, but there is only one way in or out of my cul de sac and it runs over a storm drain so I may have problems getting in and out of my house at some point.

Mayor just announced new statistics for the city of Tuscaloosa.
46 Dead. 990 Injured. 446 Unaccounted for. I won't even go into the horror stories I've been hearing.
One good thing is he assured people that looters will be dealt with harshly and the cities attorneys are chopping at the bits to get a hold of any price gougers.
One of the key problems we have is the damage to infrastructure. Water towers gone. Power stations and substations gone. Several city shops hit so we didn't even have trucks and equipment to start clean up or repair. It is getting better and a little more under control now, less that 48 hours in. Tons of help pouring in from around the state and neighboring states. These national guard, police, fire fighters, utility workers, medical responders and hundreds of volunteers are the very definition of hero.
From what I am seeing, I am so very proud of my city and state at the way they are leaving petty shit behind and doing what has to be done. Right now, there is no race, no religion, no social status, there are only neighbors, people that need help.
