We took the kids last year and it was pretty nice. I recommend this to anyone that is interested in this sort of thing. I've not been to any other festivals of this sort so I can't personally say how it ranks in comparison to others of it's kind. I'm told it's the largest and nicest in the country.
Here at the Houston festival, there are people galore. It's all out-doors in a nice large area that is much bigger than I expected. I also expected a sort of flea market atmosphere but the majority of the place is permanent buildings.
There is a blacksmith, broom maker, glass blower, and falconer to name a few. Also a master of arms that gives demonstrations and allows you to schedule personal instruction for a fee. Many shows take place through the day, some of which match the theme of the week-end. Please see the website (which is a really good site) for more info. Also many videos and photos can be found of last years festival.
We live in an apartment and would be willing to host anyone wanting to come here. We can comfortably handle 2 and uncomfortably handle a couple more (that would mean sleeping on the floor and couch). Also, due to our kids, we wouldn't be able to spend the entire time hosting like we'd like, but if anyone is wanting to spend the whole week at the festival then crashing here would probably be doable. Again, just keep in mind we have a couple of younger kids and crashing might be too strong of a word but the idea of having someplace free to sleep is the idea.
Please e-mail me if you have questions or interest. Even if you would like to attend the festival and stay closer to it at the local inn, please don't hesitate to ask for help. The worst can happen is if we only say "no"! My e-mail is xray4u@att.net and this is my personal e-mail.

I forgot to add that there is a wildfire just east of this area. I'll have to let you know if the place burns down in the next few days......
Also, there is on site camping available for those that would rather camp at the festival though I have no personal info on that portion of the festival.

Interesting. I'm going to be there sometime in the next week or so getting my work visa from the Israeli Consulate.
