Well the hint book is about the size of a phone book. I approve so far.
EDIT: It loaded w/o the necessity of a dual-layer drive.

Metacritic seems to like it a lot too.
I have cut down the Imperial dogs that have been repressing my people...Long Live the Stormcloaks!
And of course my inventory is already full...imagine that. Keep that bucket...never know when it may be useful.

Yes, I've already had to "borrow" someone's house for inventory control.

I have found a mine and <cough cough> chased out the bandits.
Hint: find a pickaxe as soon as you can.

Good call on the pickaxe. What type of character you building, Pils?
I am just putzing around with a Nord atm.
I usually play a stealther ranged-type with heavy emphasis on restoration.
I did find out that a blessed dagger+pendulum traps=undead massacre fun.
I need to study the Bible-sized guide before I really decide what type of character to run.

Go with the one that fishes in the sight of danger.

I have found no use for a pickaxe yet, as I've found ore just laying around. I'm playing a Breton with high focus on archery and destruction magicka and lockpicking.
I currently have a couple characters going. Heavy armor wearing orc that is all about two handed weapons. He has no time for magic or sneaking.
My other is a High Elf mage with focus on destruction magic and stealth. Sneaky mage.

Stupid me, ordering it from Amazon with cheap slow shipping...
Is it worth the $60? Stupid question asking a bunch of fans I know but I'm not big on paying full price at release for most games, especially with SWTOR around the corner and being one I have already pre-ordered. I'm on a budget ya know.
EDIT: I got to thinking about this question. What I mean is, what is different than Oblivion to the point that it's a must have? How's it run on machines, a real system hog? Is it buggy (i.e. wait for the patch)? Also, considering the mod community for Scrolls games, waiting could be a good thing.

Good questions! I'd like to know as well. I love Oblivion, and I'm sure we'll get Skyrim at some point. If nothing else to just wander around the prettiness (I steal everything not bolted down too).

I killed a dragon today...which was perhaps the most epic (overused word) realtime battle I have had in a CRPG.
Towards the end I sniped it out of a kill hole...I died several times. Awesome Awesome Awesome.
One other thing...I cant seem to have Lydia follow me...she says I have a follower already.

That's what it's all about. I don't know if anyone in my personal life has ever understood my fascination with computer games. We are blood brothers of a sort.

Sounds like this game is buggy as hell. Yes, I am trying to rationalize not buying it.

I think some pillock wood elf has attached himself to me...I suppose I could just kill him.

I just hope I'm not gonna have to throw a dinner party any time soon. Same as with Morrowind and Oblivion, the first thing I did with my house was get all those stupid bowls and plates and cups and such out of my containers and sell 'em to make space for my "I'll-enchant-that-laters" and "I'll-make-potions-of-these-eventuallys."
I'm having a hard time comparing to Oblivion, because I didn't like Oblivion half as much as I liked Morrowind (the scaling of random encounters, alone, was enough to annoy the crap out of me), but so far I'm enjoying the hell outta Skyrim. And for the first time in an Elder Scrolls game, archery is actually useful (IMNSHO), rather than just a good way to get killed while drawing another weapon. There are two dead dragons who can testify to that. :) (I hear you, Pils... gawd, those fights were awesome.)
And ... my dunmer sounds like Syl's Breton, across the board. Two-fisted flamethrower FTW!

NOTE: both tips below I read elsewhere, and in multiple places so I'm not going to give exact credit, but they are not my creations.
From what I understand, the best use of ore and the best reason to mine it is so that you can transmute the iron ore into silver and then into gold. By the time you make it into jewelry and sell it you will have used several skills including smithing, alteration and speech. And you will make a lot of money. I have not done this yet but I just started playing. Only level 5 and 9 hours into the game.
Also regarding dragon bones and dragons scales:
I was saving them but I read that you can't use them until you get blacksmithing 100. If you aren't going to blacksmith then sell them. Even if you are going to blacksmith, you will have found so many dragon bones and scales by the time you hit blacksmithing 100 that selling some early in the game for much needed cash is no problem.

Yes, I'm quoting myself. Or more accurately, I'm answering my own question. I hope it helps other people on the fence.
I HATED Oblivion's skill and skill-up/level up system. I restarted like 4 times trying to get a feel I could live with and gave up. Skyrim is different. You pick a "stone" that gives you bonuses to skill gains based on warrior, make, and thief. Later you can find stones and change this. So, during the game, it is always open and your skill and class system is flexible. If you get tired of a certain style of play you can change up and not have to start over! You can mix and match. Stealthy mage, warrior thief, plain caster, whatever you want. The skyrim is the limit (:P).
Graphically very pretty and smooth although I still see flaws. Some of the touted features are cheesy, such as ants on the vegetation. They are a sort of sprite and look fake. Their legs don't move while they "slide" along their ant trail. It's nice touch but I can't get excited about it. It's better not to look to closely at some of the details. Also, NPC's "slide" along as they walk and also warp at times. This can be distracting. Do not focus on their feet or it may destroy the sense of reality and immersion that is otherwise very strong.
Also, the two 'dungeons" I've been in were much better done than Oblivion's, IMO. So far, I am happy.

I just killed a dragon with my Khajiit claws. Any game that allows this level of awesome is worth the money imo.
How to be a sneaky Furball killing machine.
Race: Khajiit
Focus: Restoration, Heavy Armor, Enchanting, Sneak, Smithing.
Step 1:Train Heavy armor to the second tier (Fists of Steel) that allows the ac of your gloves to add to your unarmed damage. Get the best gloves you can find and improve thier Ac with smithing.
Step 2: on the way to the thieves guild you will be attacked by a guy that has gloves of the pugulist on him. D/e those gloves for the +unarmed enchant and put it on everything you can.
Step 3: Put a healing spell in your not punchy hand, or a big shield in your left and be captain america.
Now go punch a dragon square in its smug face.

I've not gone there or seen this person, but I would like to point out that Skyrim has a radial random quest system that generates random encounters. This may be one of them. It may be repeatable, I don't know. But for those that can't find him, don't look forever! He may have been random.
Sounds like an awesome character idea though!

I'm pretty sure he is a static character. I've run across him in two playthroughs now and both times he had the gloves on him. It was actually my first playthoguh as a mage that I came across him that I came up with the build and immediatly rerolled. Good times. :)

I've caved in many a head with my mighty mace!
I've also dialed back the difficulty, that might have something to do with it. ;)
I'm so far very happy with my big clunky warrior. But at night she discards her armor and robs everyone blind! Beware the naked bandit!!
