Tonight, this axe dropped for me while I was fighting harpies. How the harpy was able to still fly while hauling this behemoth around is beyond me. But that's beside the point.

My first impulse was to offer this to the guild. But it's been suggested to me that I sell it. Apparently I can get 200-300g for it. That's a staggering sum, and I must say that I'm tempted.

But I'd really rather that a guildie take this. Here's why:

1) It'll probably be taken by someone who I'll group with. Thus my group will go more smoothly because the warrior will be swinging this around.

2) The only way I can see someone dropping 300g for this axe is if they bought gold from a farmer. And that kind of bugs me.

3) I have little doubt that if some epic priest gear dropped, a guildie would offer it to me & and the other priests.

Maybe I'm being naive. But this is just a game. The gold we get isn't real. I can't use it to buy hookers & blow - except in Goldshire, of course. All I can spend it in on is other gear, patterns & an epic mount. I don't care about the last, and I'll get the other two through random drops.

I may have made up my mind, but I'd like to hear what others think about this. The economics of WoW kind of fascinates me.

Also, how do we figure out who gets the axe?

(Personally I think you should sell it and buy something on the AH you need).

What we used to do in my old guild, when an item like this would drop, is typically offer it to a guildmember for purchase first for a substantial discount. If, for exampe, the axe sells for 250-300g on the AH, it might be offered to the guild for 125-150g. Most times, the seller would be more than happy to get paid on an installment plan.

This way the person who got the drop gets some compensation for it, while the person who needs it gets the item for a nice discount. A win win. It may not be as good as hookers and blow (what really is?), but it's something.

That was just a guideline and not a hard set rule for us. If you wanted to sell it on the AH because you needed the gold for something, no problem. If you wanted to give it away, that was cool too. I'm just offering an option.

I haven't had an epic drop since I quit my toon on Terenas ages ago. Interestingly enough, the only epic I ever had drop was this very axe. Not once, not twice but three dang times!

I like Val's idea as well. I freely give blue items and any other mats to anyone that needs them in the guild. That said, if a glowing brightwood staff dropped for me...it goes for 800 gold on the AH. It's a personal decision but if guildy wanted it, I'd prolly let it go for 100 gold. If a guildy that has historically hooked me up quite a bit wanted it, I'd prolly give it to them for free.
