Hey everyone, I was planning to pick up a mic this weekend and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on which one to get. Wasn't looking to spend a lot, something in the area of 40-50.

I picked up a Logitech Stereo USB Headset 250 for $40, works fine.

I'm pretty sure that's the one we got for Aditu (I still use the laptop mic and speakers). She's had no complaints.

While we're talking headsets, anyone have some advice for those of us with glasses? I wear 'em, and while my headset is generally very good, after a while wearing it, it presses the headpieces into my ears and hurts.
I have the same problem, Ing, but because my headset is so cushiony it's not as bad as others that I've used. After about 2 hours of playing, I have to alternate between having my glasses inside and outside my ears (the headset keeps them on) and then sometimes i have to try and prop them up above my ears.... sucks.

I have the Plantronics DSP-400 (usb) and it seems pretty good. It has an inline volume and mic-mute (with a status light) which is very handy. The sound quality and mic are both very nice. I'll have to buy another one for Oryk now, unless of course I can find something better for myself and pass this one down to her. ;-)

I'm also in the market for a good mic. Widget and I tried to get me on Vent, but it seems that my crappy old Guild Wars headset no longer has a functioning mic. I'd honestly love to have just a mic, so that I can still listen to the game through my speakers, but I'm guessing that it'll be easier all around if I get the headset combo. Anyone use just a mic and have any suggestions?

If you get a USB headset then you can play with settings in winders so you can still listen to the game from your speakers and have only vent going through the headset.

Or if you're very lucky, you can do what Zan and I do, which is run Vent off another system entirely. XD

Shit, why didn't I think of that. I could just run vent of the download box. But then I'd have to actually fix the download box.... most likely I'm going to pick up a headset this weekend.
Walmart $14.99 and buy yourself a hooker with the money you saved

Only time they get above $30 is if they are USB.

Generally, you get what you pay for. The sound quality (headset & mic) are crap on a $15 unit.

I have this - http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/Altec_Lansing_AHS_202/AHS202I/G08256/froogle/
Cheap and works fine I think. That is, when I actually use it. ;D
Edit: Picked it up at Best Buy. About the same price as what's listed in the link.

Heard a couple people wanting an over-the-ear headset/mic, so here you go!
It's even bluetooth!
