With the recent application submitted by the 15 year old Journey fan, our age policy is now in question. Should we only allow 18+ or should we make it so that anyone can join? If we allow youngsters in then under what terms? We could force them to use the enl channel and not allow them access to the guild channel. If you vote to allow youngsters in then give us some ideas of how to lessen parent retribution for junior asking "what's a meat flower?"

I'm going to reserve my vote for possible underager friendly suggestions, but I do want to say that I have nothing against having underagers in the guild provided I don't have "tone it down" at all for them.
I think it's a crap shoot because I'm on some forum that get way worse than VS ever gets which also has underagers who's parents are totally okay with them being on the site. I'd just like to avoid and parental unpleasantness.

It's got to be a case by case basis, and if there is ever a problem with what is being said or whatever then the answer is quite simple. /gquit or /gkick
The only real problems I would see with the 18- crowd would be
A: The kid/parents won't like the content, get a little huffy at us and all we say is "Sorry Mrs. Foreman" and the kid leaves.
2: The kid is a total asshat, spamming stupid stuff everywhere, excessive 'lol' usage or whatever and we say "bye bye nub"
III: We corrupt him, turning him into mutation of everything that is cool in VS.

I completely agree with Aro. It is not our job. You don't go to the adult book store and say 'hey, when my son passes by here, shut the doors and windows until he passes'... You tell Bobby not to go that way when he comes home from school, or you pick his ass up yourself. It is not our responsibility. I have children, I parent them. :D
As for allowing them in... I wouldn't allow my son in this guild. Simply because I am trying very hard to maintain some innocence while he still has it. That, and, I'd turn into a parent and not want Don spewing about 'oh god that's hot' when I say 'my festering bites are itching'. So, I'm kinda torn. I don't want to judge the poor guy but truthfully, I think that our disclaimer of a 'mature, adult guild' should have told him to go the fuck away for a few years.

oh and 18 doesn't make you an adult.. I've seen more mature 12 year olds in some instances..
case by case is a pretty decent argument, as long as nobody gets their toes stepped on.

25 and up! :) I'm voting for case-by-case basis because I've come across some younguns who were smart and didn't mind our perviness and I really liked them.

I'm all about giving them a chance, as long as we let them know up front that we are vulgar vulgar bitches, and are they okay with that. Because I am not the greatest at toning it down either, especially when I have been drinking.
(Hence my initial mistrust of anyone who cannot belly up to the bar, but that is also on a case by case basis.) <3

I'm just amused that this guy is already tagged as the "Journey fan". Does that mean he has a nickname already?
Anyhow, I'd feel a little uncomfortable with younger girls in the guild. I know boys are dirty little wankers, but I still apologize if I swear around the young girls at work.

As a heads up, we do have an 11 year old girl in the guild though she rarely logs nowadays. Shadolin is her father.

Just a question, is it against the law to allow a minor access to Adult type conversations with sexual inuendo and humor?

From a Middle Schoolteacher and Parent point of view: I vote no.
It's great to say "let them in if they understand we won't tone down our talk", however, I think if we had members under 18 playing regularly, I personally would have to watch what I say.
This has happened in the past with both VS (Been told to watch what I say because the 11 yro is on) and in Dominicide (with WarrirorWoman another sub 18Yro).
I don't want to have to censor myself or be made to talk on another "Adult Themed Channel" because the youngins are on.
So I vote Fuck em'! Let them join another guild!

Im with Brown, if you guys are comfortable with me talking about cocks, sluts, and coke whores in front of a 13 year old then thats fine with me.

For me, I willl be censoring both my topics and my language now that a minor has joined the guild. Yes, it's a personal choice.
While this individual may be a very mature fifteen year old, he is still fifteen. As a 30+ year old, I have yet to meet a 15 year old who I can relate to as a peer. I meet fifteen year olds all the time as a teacher. Sure, I have some students and family who I think are funny, insightful, intelligent, and "old souls." But being an "old soul" doesn't equate to having real experience.
I wouldn't vote yes to any of them if they applied to VS. In my VERY humble opinion, I don't think the topics many times spoken about in guild chat or on vent are appropriate for a fifteen year old. Sure, among his peers they may talk about some pretty crazy shit (I know I did), but it's not the same when it's adults talking about it to/with a minor. At least in my mind it isn't. Your milage may vary.

I have to agree with Val on this. Although I have no issues with a 15 year old in the guild. I will defiantly be more cautious about what I say and how I say it. I have a 14 year old son, and would defiantly not talk around him the way we joke and make fun in the game. There is a certain innocence to youth and wheather or not they have already lost that innocence, I sure as heck don't want to be the one responsible for all or part of that loss. I guess also being a parent I would feel uncomfortable talking about some of the topics and issues that come up knowing that someone close to my son's age was listening in.
I agree that it is the parents responsibility to parent and not ours or WOW's so this is based solely on a personal choice.

See now we just totally change the guild because of one 15 year old. Furthermore, when I say the things that I may say, it going to make other people feel uncomfortable. I think this is a huge mistake.
I completly understand everyones thoughts and personal feelings on this and I respect them. I however will not change a word of what I say.

Okay, how did we just change the guild?
Remember Shiek, Ben? No one knew he was 16 for the longest time and then he became some sort of Ben Cultist and he looooovvved you.
In the future, to prevent any upsets, we could just put on the app that we'd PREFER legal adults to apply and that will cut down on those dirty young people applying.

See, that's the thing, Lux -- I think if someone ACTS like a fifteen year-old, we'll know it, and then they'll be dumbasses, and we'll make them go away. If they DON'T, then you forget they're fifteen and you get more comfortable.
This is why I don't like the age question on the app, and why I didn't answer it -- for exactly this problem. If someone is an immature dumbass, they will be an immature dumbass regardless of their chronological age. We should base our ins and outs on MATURITY accordingly.

After reading all this, I've come to the decision that I would like to change my vote and just go ahead and go adults only.
I will be perfectly 100% honest here: this is because I would rather hear Val and Brown talk about cockgobbling whores than feel, even on a personal level, that they must behave like responsible adults.
I'm not trying to say anyone who IS comfortable with talking about coke whores around fifteen year olds is a bad person. I am comfortable talking about coke whores around fifteen year olds, and you may take from this about me my ownself what you wish. However, I am more interested in our current members having a good time than prospective members getting a fair chance.
I know that's mean, and I know it's not fair to the mature, responsible fifteen-year-olds out there, but I love my current guildies more than those mature responsible fifteen-year-olds, so: fuck them.
I know we've already accepted this one, so it's a moot point, but if we do end up back where we were because this doesn't somehow work out, I'd rather stop accepting minors than ANYONE feel, even personally, that they need to behave like a responsible adult.

We'll let this trial period go and then discuss again in a week or so to see how everyone feels. The Enlightened in the past has had many young members and like all the young 'uns before Shino, I honestly think we'll eventually forget that he's 15. Even when we had an 11 year old girl in the guild, chat was only toned down for about a day or two before everyone was back to full swing perversion. Nine times out of ten we didn't even realize she was online and quite honestly she didn't pay much attention to us and our ranting.
If after the trial period a bunch of us still feel like they have to "tone it down" then we'll discuss changing policy and sending Shino on his way.

Ing, you summed it up very nicely.

Getting comfortable with it isn't exactly going to help the problem. I kinda wish we would have just said no. I agree with Ingo that I'd rather not have anyone 'change' just because some 15 year old wants to join OUR guild. He's not going to NOT play just because he isn't in our guild. He's going to move along to some other hardcore, 15 year old player guild and that'll be it. Now all of this drama has happened, and for what? The chance to allow a teenager access to our uber-osity? Not a good trade off, in my opinion.
I just went with the majority here. I voted Yes so don't shoot me. :P
