I figured I would make a post as your new dr00d wise guy, Jak has laid out VERY useful information and I will not try to compete with that, if you are questions about gear, please refer to those posts outlined in the locked druid thread above.
Hello. My name is Gawth. I am a feral druid. Specifically, I am a tank. I have healing gear (which currently is all you really need to 'manage' being a healer in druid imo) and can fill any role. Druid, is a hybrid. I don't think this has been laid out in any threads before so please let me go into what this means.
Hybrid means, you can do everything in general, perhaps to a lesser extent. With druid, this is mostly true. I can be in feral gear and still heal, I can be in healing gear and still tank. This doesn't define you, though. Sure, gear has a huge part to play but in a pinch, don't be afraid to pop out and heal or pop in and tank.
Now there are teh specs, each have their benefits. Can feral take the sheer damage a prot warrior can? Nah, not really, but we got things to back us up (and next patch, look the hell out cause I can use potions now!) One of the benefits I have been noticing as a feral druid is the agro. It does take me longer to generate it in 5-10 mans. I need people to back off for a sec and let me get agro. Once I have it though, it's mine. Been noticing the same in ZG, I need to explore that more. I think the combo between dots/casting/healing/general agro works very well. I can die fast though, and that is the problem.
Feral is very gear intensive, no way about it. We have no mitigation (parry/block) we do have dodge, but to be honest it is hard to find really good tanking gear to make up for the dodge. So, what does this mean? It doesn't mean much, really. With the addition of us being able to use potions and trinkets in the next patch/expansion, it might mean something. Warriors still are awesome, obey your warriors. Non-boss fights and feral bear-dr00ds have nothing against warriors. Boss fights? sometimes, especially ones that tend to have phases. A warriors bigest asset (fight me on this wars!) is defense. Defense is the ability to avoid/lessen a crit. In all other areas they are better with mitigation, avoiding/lessening hits in general (parry, block)
Now, chicken druids! WEE CHICKENS! I tried to be a chicken, didn't work for me. When in moonkin you get the same armor bonuses that bears do, the problem is, you are really kinda stuck with mostly cloth armor currently. I really don't know much about the chickens, maybe I should give it a shot again for a bit, just need to get some gear.
So, no point to my post, just wanted to get my name out there. Have fun being druids! Find something you wanna do. Remember, you can do everything, regardless of your spec, so pick one that you think will be fun and go with it, just don't be afraid to be-not-your-spec!
hearts, and so forth.

Well if you are a leatherworker then look at making yourself the blood tiger leather armor that is ZG crafted gear, has moonkin written all over it.
