This is cross-posted on the Lifers site. I wanted to give them a set of guidelines for VS-hosted runs. I took these guidelines directly from Kundera's "The Victorious Secrets" post, so they'll likely look familiar.

---

We play World of Warcraft for fun. It's where we like to go to escape the pressure and demands that real life puts on us and to have a good time.

Open doors: We allow in anyone we like. We do not base recruitment on anything game related.

Offended?: Too bad. We're all VERY comfortable with one another and say pretty much whatever comes to mind.

Be Nice!: There's a definite line between being offensive and being mean. We don't like meanies.

Uberism: Not tolerated. By uberism I mean a behavior where someone thinks they know everything about the game and just how everyone should play it. We don't care.

--

I'll be adhering to these guidelines in all VS events that I run, even if all group members are not VS members.

Posted by Rach on the Lifers board to which Gleja replied with our "guidelines". ha!

"I, for one, will not be attending any more of Cereal's PuG runs. I feel he does not respect others' wishes, and is basically a prick. I had my headphones off for almost the whole MC run because he kept using a word that I do not like. I asked him nicely to not say it anymore, and he kept saying it. To me that's very disrepectful.

While I may be a biatch sometimes, I do try to respect other people and their wishes. I feel others should do the same. Just a humble imo."

That is not at ALL what went on, and I'm ... well, kind of angry about it, because she keeps blowing this up to get more attention, and it's recockulous. She even fucking posted it on the (goddamn) Eitrigg forum.

Here is what actually happened in the really real world: we pulled two packs of Core Hounds at once, and no one was listening to directions, so they smoldered and resurrected each other (like they do) and wiped the raid; when they popped back up, Cereal said 'god DAMN it' (again, like you do), and Angelia said "That really upsets me." Cereal responded with commisseratory agreement, because wiping bugged him too, and she said "No, your language." He asked her for clarification, and she explained that "the GD word" really upset her and she didn't want anyone to say it around her. There was a long pause for awhile, and Cereal very contritely and politely said that he was sorry to have offended her, and he was going to do his best to watch his language, but he needed her to keep in mind that we were all adults there and it was a Friday night, so sometimes coarse language was going to slip out; he asked everyone to be cognizant (he actually used the word cognizant, I totally have a girly crush on him) of other people's feelings. And he never EVER said 'god damn' again that night, and any time someone swore at ALL, he said 'Sorry, Rach.'

I will not be playing with Angelia again. She's an ungrateful (goddamn) drama queen who is (goddamn) seriously (goddamn) fucking with my (goddamn) zen.

Just please to be realizing the intent of the VS 'guidelines'. They are a big stone tablet we can point to should anyone start complaining. It's there so that VS runs stay VS, even if we have members from other guilds.

Or, if you are feeling vindictive, think of it as the Angelia Rule.

So are the Lifers just a less-competent, high-drama version of VS? Or are a few bad apples ruining my impression of them?

They have some great members that I enjoy playing with. I don't think I'm the only one. But there are a couple of folks that cause head and/or fist shaking

It makes me sad, because I really enjoyed the first couple of raids we had with them and thought we were cut from the same cloth. I guess it just goes to show what we were saying all along - you really do have to get to know someone before you know what they're like.

I'm still going to go on raids with them because while it bugs, I don't have to be her friend, just kill dragons with her. I can do that. XD It just goes to show. I'm still glad we did the raid alliance and all, we've all gotten to see some new content we wouldn't have seen for a while otherwise, and I've enjoyed that. There are also a lot of people there whose company I do enjoy - I'm fond of their tanks, for example, although of course no one will EVER be as fun to keep up as Rin.

I can totally see how people who avoid pugs wouldn't want to raid with these guys though, it's the same kind of thing; some folks do not want to have to deal with the frustration and aggro of someone annoying the shit out of them when they just logged on to kill some dragons. I can understand that.

I'd say the lifers are really about 50/50; half of them that we've raided with so far are really good people that are fairly good at their classes, pay attention, and are a lot like us. Slim and Lemmon are two good examples of this. The other half are people who are either drama whores like Angelia, juveniles like KingKong, or complete and utter idiots like Chucksirrons. Nobody's perfect, but still, we cannot allow someone like Angelia to let her preferences on things as generally trivial as "GD" impact us in the slightest.

I think Gleja did a great job posting those VS guidelines. :)

So much WORD to this!

You log on to kill some dragons and all of a sudden, you find you aren't allowed to say "goddamn." Yes, very annoying.

It honestly wouldn't bother me if that was only in the Lifers runs, because hey, when in Rome. When we're on their turf, they make the rules.

That's why I think Gleja did a very good thing posting our guidelines. I do feel bad for Cereal.

The worst I've ever seen of this kind of behavior was once in a SM pug. The hunter was pulling with his gun, and this girl freaked out, because she REALLY REALLY HATED GUNS, and did not want a gun used ANYWHERE AROUND HER IN THE PARTY because OMG GUNS ARE HORRIBLE AND EVIL AND AWFUL AND REALLY REALLY REALLY UPSET HER. The hunter was like, ".... I don't have a bow." So they made him leave the group.

When Gleja first started using that avatar, I totally thought that it matched how I imagined him in real life. Now I think that if I ever met him in RL, I'd be disappointed if that wasn't what you actually looked like.

And let me just take this opportunity to say how much Gleja is totally my hero. He is very picture of the the sensible, mature gamer (with a twisted sense of humor, of course) that represents this guild and whats its about.
