Hi All,

I know we're all VERY excited about the new content we're seeing in Burning Crusades but we need to be aware that others are looking forward to the surprises that BC has to offer. When a lot of us are discussing, in detail, things that we see and do it's sorta ruining for those that haven't gotten there yet. Just be careful not to give out too much of the cool "surprise element" details over guild chat so we don't spoil it for those that would like to discover it for themselves.

Thanks everone! <3

This is a good point. It is one reason why I ignore much of guild chat right now. I enjoy finding things out for myself when I get there. I just happen to play slower than some.

Dumbledore I believe is not dead. And maybe, just maybe Snape and Dumbledore had this all planned out ahead of time. However I could be wrong. Who knows what the Lady will write. Will the next book come out this June?

Not to throw this too much back on topic :) but please people be conscious of this, it's getting ridiculous. Last night several people were linking final quest chain quest rewards from Shadowmoon Valley and that's not necessary. Not only are you spamming guild chat, but a lot of people DON'T want to SEE that yet. It tends to make people who are still in their low to mid 60's feel like they shouldn't even bother doing the quests they're on.

There are a fair number of players who are already 70, and quite a few who are 68+ and almost there. But we can't forget all the people who are in their low to mid 60's who are taking their time, enjoying the content, and not interested in rushing to get to those last few instances right away, so just be conscious of them.

Personally I don't see any problem with occasionally linking something in guild chat, particularly if it is a world drop or something and particularly if you are offering it to guildmates who may be interested, but please STOP linking all the rewards from questlines. People will get there when they get there. :)

I know I linked some items that just looked really cool. And it was more to link the animations/images of the items rather than the stats. I was in IF and it was a swirly ioune stone looking hat. Someone then asked where do you get it and I looked it up and sent them the info in a /t. So, that could have been me. If so I'm sorry. But for the record I'm ONE of the low 60s that are taking their time. It was linked off of another player.

I sincerely apologize to anyone that may have been offended, I just thought those two items looks SMEXY!

I'm really conflicted about the stance we're taking.

Yeah, I haven't said anything about the COOLEST QUEST EVER, mostly because I want people to experience it first hand. But I find that I can't get my dander up about a hat linked in guild chat. People in this game have that hat, we are going to see them and say, "Hey, cool hat!"

There seem to be 2 arguments against linking and discussing, neither of which I entirley buy.

Argument 1) Spoiling the surprise.

When we were playing WoW 1.0 did we get upset if someone linked to Ony, BWL or Naxx gear? We hadn't gotten there yet, so that gear would be a surprise. When we linked to Strath gear in guild chat when there were level 20 players on, did we get concerned? Not that I recall.

Argument 2) Discouraging players who aren't at the same level

So because I link to a sweet hat, that's going to discourage someone on a quest to get a less-sweet hat? I don't see how this works, honestly. We replace gear every 2 levels. All the gear I'm wearing right now will be gone within a month. But I'm not going to stop playing just because I see some hat from Karazhan.

Regardless, I'm still trying to keep my mouth shut, if only because folks have asked. I'm just not sure why I'm keeping my mouth shut.

I think you pretty much answered your own question there. People have asked to please keep stuff on the downlow, so you do. It shouldn't matter why folks don't want to be spoiled.

I don't want to know about the end of Lost season 2, or whatever, because I haven't seen it yet. It doesn't matter that everyone else has seen it, I haven't. So, pretty please, don't tell me about it. I think that's all it boils down to.

Also, there's been a pretty fierce paradigm shift in the guild as a whole since BC; for so long, the prevailing core theme behind VS's setup is 'gear doesn't matter.' To then see, all of a sudden, gear mattering -- to such an extent that some don't talk about much BUT their new gear -- is pretty jarring. I'm not saying that's BAD, just that it's DIFFERENT, and it's taking some getting used to.

It's mostly because the majority of us had shitty gear, and we worked hard to get our shitty gear, then comes the expansion and it's such a huge upgrade that we shit ourselves and pass out.

Well as for me I don't see half of what is put up/linked..and if I did see it I don't know where or how one comes by the item. I am going slow with the game and enjoying what I am into. Just hanging out with Ms Calli and Skypop or just solo. The bad thing for me is being a pack rat I need to sell more stuff. So as for ""spoiling it"" , I don't get spoiled because I will have to expense it first hand when I get there. Kinda like seeing the Mona Lisa in the Louvre or Eiffel Tower on TV. It was so much better when I saw it in real life. So for me if something is showed on chat I can say I am safe from being spoiled.

For me, it's not the gear that spoils stuff. It's things like mobs, locations, quirky quests. Things like that.

Although, I was totally enthralled by Gleja's bubble mace when he got it and it wouldn't have been as cool if I had already seen it linked in chat a zillion times...I guess it varies. I like little surprises like that.

It wasn't you, Raeb :) And don't misunderstand - I see nothing at all wrong with people occasionally linking items. Especially when we're looking at how they look, we ALL love that dressing room! Control-click for the win!

The only thing I was referring to was when someone linked ALL of the possible rewards for a questline, and there were like 6 items linked as a result. It's not just that some people might consider it a spoiler; personally I don't (I prefer not to know anything at all about instances before I go into them, but I don't care about questlines), but even setting aside that, it was yet more spam linked onto guild chat.

I just think we've gone overboard to some extent with spam on guild chat, is all. Honestly, how many people reading this thread payed any real attention to guild chat the past week or more?

If I'm soloing, I'll have it on but my eyes glaze over most of it, so other than saying hi I don't really talk much on it right now. If I'm in a group, I flat out have it turned off and use a custom tab just for party/whispers/say, etc.

I don't really care about gear being linked in chat - for starters, DON'T CLICK ON IT jeez, then you won't see the awesome stats or how it looks, or whatever - but I will get quite miffed if someone proceeds to blather about a questline and end up with "OMG AND THEN YOU GO INTO A CAVE IN SHADOWMOON AND YOU CAN TOTALLY TALK TO MALFURION AND HE'LL HELP YOU FREE YSERA AND ALL HER EGGS!" ( ... <-- not actually a quest as far as I know) (although it would be pretty sweet)

I tend to view, "Hey, I'm on a quest about dragons in Shadowmoon" as not a spoiler. "I'm doing a quest with these rewards if you kill this named wolf who hangs out here and pick this orange flower and also there are blue dragons in Hellfire lurking in a cave at the northeast corner" as a spoiler.

That's true, I can see that.

For another example, it's fairly obvious that the devs are using a *LOT* of classic sci-fi and the like as inspiration and humor in the expansion. In the Bone Wastes in Terrokar, there's a certain sci-fi themed questline that many of us have already done, but I'd hate to mention to others I know because I know how much they'd love to see it firsthand.

I guess there's no real way to gauge other than to say to use your own discretion. :)

I feel like this thread and the other thread should be merged or something. I just wanted to add that I've noticed the paradigm shift Aro mentioned, and oh god it hurts so much to keep my mouth shut, it hurts like needles

Just replace "BC" with "WOTLK."
