I'm gonna be down & out for a few days. My computer crapped out on me yesterday. Right in the middle of playing, my WoW screen minimized and I got swarmed with pop-ups that weren't even in English. My son took a look at it and he said the virus is a new Trojan horse and it embedded itself in a microsoft program so he may not be able to get rid of it.

It's crazy because we run Firefox, but like anything else shit will find a way to happen. Hopefully he can fix it, if not new PC time and I won't be on for awhile longer.

Unfortunately for you all, I will still be posting in the forums at work :P

Hope to see ya's in game soon.

Did you get a virus?
Did you get 400000 viruses?

Yes. Very Yes!

Sorry to hear it Gran, hope it works out for the best!

Ouch!! Hope to see you back soon!

If you don't mind some quick advice, I'd recommend changing your Warcraft password using the www.worldofwarcraft.com admin website from a different computer just in case there was a keylogger in there somewhere.

What may very well be the quickest way to get back to WoW is to slick the machine and start from scratch. I know you probably don't want to hear that, but if you've been that badly, and sneakily infected, you really can't trust any file on the system.... even, unfortunately files like photos and music, etc.....

I'm always open to any advice, so thanks guys. My son used a program (I think it's called Trevsomthing-or-other, when I find out I'll post it) to clear the system. We had a G.A.A. meeting last night and we ran the program before we left. When we got back it was finished running and found 3 viruses and 85 infected files. He said whatever got into our system is gone.

I wasn't able to get to a PC to change my WoW password because the firewall at work blocks the main page (but not the forums - go figure), and it does the same at my wife's office. Hopefully when I check later nobody sharded my purplez.

Thanks again all ;D

Yeah - it came back that damn quick. Looks like I'm off until I get a new computer. See ya's then!

You dont need a new PC for this kind of an issue... Just get it formated and Windows installed on it, and you should be fine.

A few of you have seen that I (the hakkor, fake, but nicer Gran) have been back for a couple of days now. Whatever is causing the pop-ups is using Internet Explorer. We run Firefox, so my son simply changed the name of Internet Explorer so whatever is doing it can't find Explorer to open the pop-ups.

He did log on before I did and strip my toons to make it look like I was hacked, but it was all in my inventory and he didn't shard my purplez. Needless to say it worked 'cause I freaked. Good job Gran Jr. Now that he's mastered the art of breakin' balls, time to teach him about payback.lol
